Magic held the Lakers hostage over paul westhead, the coach who the championship in 1980. Told the Lakers they needed to fire him or he would demand to be traded. Players have been doing this stuff for a while

really says a lot for AD that he wants to leave "his team" to go play for LBJ and the Lakers. AD apparently prefers to follow, rather than lead.

eh, idk. AD going to LA is more about life after lebron as he is not going to be "the man" much longer.

AD will never be a national brand name tho regardless of where he plays because he is a) uglier than my dick and b) has the personality of a brick

I’ve been an NBA fan since 5 years old. This is BY FAR the least amount of non-NOLA basketball I’ve watched in my life. The “heroes” (the guys that you tune in to watch do larger than life things) are unlikeable either in the presentation of their game or just for being general pompous douchebags. There’s so much emphasis on drawing fouls (this is NOT a Harden bash, I watched a Heat game this year where the entire team flopped around like fish for 48 minutes), and so little defensive intensity, that it really waters down the “amazing” performances to the point I don’t really care if I miss someone drop 55 on national TV anymore. Then you have guys like Lebron James that for the life of me I can not understand how anyone would like this clown. It’s like giving a 12 year old the most power and sway we’ve ever seen in the NBA (I’ve had plenty of criticism of him before this Davis mess, but the Davis mess only reaffirms tenfold what I thought of him). Throw in the super team aspect and you just have a bubbling pot of “who gives a frick?” Some of this stuff Silver has no control over. Some of it is stuff David Stern would have shut down already.

Wall to wall coverage year round is great, but they’re alienating the people who actually really liked the game of basketball in the process. Keep your Lebrons. Keep your superteams. At least fix the damn officiating and quit rewarding guys playing for whistles instead of buckets. It completely takes me out of the game when I see just absurd shite done and rewarded.

That's what I figured.

And I have a feeling that people wouldn't be complaining like this if GS wasn't so goddamn good.

I think fans as a whole might even enjoy the player movement if it meant having a handful of different teams with a chance to win every year. And I think that's exactly what we'd have if GS wasn't THIS good.

fair enough

i think Greek Freak would probably laugh in Rich Paul's face if LBJ sent him over to talk about the same deal that AD is getting. Freak, Westbrook, Lillard seem way more Old School assassins than guys like AD and KAT.

Simmons made an interesting observation last week when he said what would stop Zion and Ja Morant declaring for the draft in April and then setting up their own PPV Dunk Contest? There is absolutely nothing the NBA nor the NCAA could do to stop it short of colluding with potential broadcast partners and trying to short circuit their ability to broadcast.

The end game of players having so much individual power is the do more and more on their own for themselves.

Super teams were not created in the same way. Stars didn’t get pissy and force their way out. And if they did, it wasn’t in the media.

Stars weren’t bailing from their teams and alienating to join LA and Boston.

You think Lebron is leaving Cle the first time if he had what Giannis has around him in Milwaukee?

Lebron would have a ring already with those guys.

Except Milwaukie where GB dominates the state, he other guys are all in cities that LOVE their basketball. I’ve been following Pels talk since joining this site and unless the Pels are in the playoffs, that board is dead.

There’s prob more Lebron fans in Louisiana than their are Pels fans tbh.

Then wouldn’t you want those cities to be rewarded? I’m not saying hand them participation trophies.

But seriously...Portland has great fans, but a super team isn’t going to assemble in Oregon. Same goes for Utah. They are basically holding on to young talent until those players decide to go elsewhere.

I’m not crapping on a guy who hits free agency and leaves. It happens. It’s these guys who have to publicly announce their intent while still mid season with the current team. Have a little class, don’t be a little bitch, and show a good work ethic until your time to negotiate comes.

Otherwise, they are no different than spoiled children pouting that you didn’t buy them their favorite toy at the store.

I guess this happens because society has coddled these guys all along because the Good Lord blessed them with size and skill.

Jordan got Doug Collins fired.

Pippen demanded a trade publicly. Bill Walton demanded a trade to either the Lakers or Celtics.

Shaq signed with the Lakers as a free agent. So did Karl Malone.

None of this is as new as it seems. Heck, I'm watching two of the East's top teams in Toronto and Milwaukee right now while the Knicks are looking to be the worst team in the league.

Klay is going to be a L.A. Laker.
Cousins might stay but kd is gone. Green is up for big bucks.

Karl was on weak knees them. Hell, Hakeem was on the Raptors, Ewing on the Sonics.

I’d love it if the Knicks had been able to build around Kristaps. It would be refreshing to see new blood. We just had four finals in a row of the same teams.

That has happened 0 times prior. And you can’t compare an underdeveloped league in the 60’s to the way things are now. Auerbach and Co won with completely different circumstances.

Bulls win 6 titles with a team built mostly through the draft, except for a couple ringers (Bill Cartwright, Dennis Rodman): Oh, wow! What an amazing dynasty. Great times!

Warriors win 3 titles with a team built mostly through the draft, except for a couple ringers (Iguodala, Durant): OH NOOOO! THIS IS TERRIBLE!

It's just you people getting old and cranky. It's always been the same.

I mean, there’s a portion of NBA fans that believe Stern threw in the #1 pick when Benson bought the Pelicans franchise.

This is an overreaction. When was the last time a player/agent came out and said they wanted to be traded? We have Leonard last year but he’s kinda a special case with the crazy uncle. Then who? Kobe Bryant reportedly requested a trade AWAY from LAL.

I'd like for them to move on. But I'd certainly understand if they didn't.

I really do think they're wrecking some AMAZING seasons, though.

We'd have..

Steph and GS
Harden, CP3, and Houston
Lebron and wherever he'd be
KD and wherever he'd be
Paul George, Westbrook, and OKC
Greek Freak and Milwaukee
Kawhi and a really nice Toronto team
Kyrie and Boston
Denver is nice
Phi and their 3
Dame, McCollum, and Portland

Sure, there might be a favorite or 2 in there but there would be PLENTY teams that would create for amazing playoff basketball and plenty teams with a real chance.

GS being as good as they are ends the entire discussion. And I don't think player movement would be that big a deal at all.

I’m not calling out the Warriors. Maybe Boogie by these standards. But no...I’m calling out the ‘if you can’t beat em’, join em’ types.
