They do hate each other, but do you personally know many Michigan or Ohio State fans? It's pretty bad.
I do and OSU fans claim Michigan is a dog shite team until magically the last week it would be impressive to beat them.
Also, why do the former Michigan and MSU players I know always talk about the rivalry in state being more important?

The entire country cares about the game. Alabama cares about the iron bowl

Damn guess I needed to put this to win the completely subjective argument

Let me know when you have people poisoning the trees of the other school or shooting their own fans because they weren't upset enough about losing the game. I know OSU and UM fans who have retired here in SC and, in my experience, there is zero comparison. The Iron Bowl is the closest thing the United States has to the Old Firm rivalry between Rangers and Celtic.

You really have no idea what you’re talking about when it comes to The Game.

Are Bama and Auburn fans more crazy?
Is that the argument? Sure this funny little game called football means so much to people who never ever ever took a class at either University.
But that's not really something to celebrate, is it? The passion of non-college graduates?
Nationally, it's a total regional game...I mean, nobody outside of Alabama really gives a frick until we hear funny stories like Harvey Updike...and then we're like, WTF is this about?
But national hard-core football fans will always watch The Game...as their Dad grew up on it in the 60's and 70's.
National casual fans will watch USC-ND because they are told they are supposed to.

No fair. You can't introduce ignorant redneck as a criteria
But that's why I asked the OP to qualify the definition of "bigger". Iron Bowl may be more heated or passionate than The Game. I just don't think that is the sum total of what makes up a "rivalry"

at throwing this game in there.

Easily OSU vs Michigan.
Although it isn't half as exciting as the Iron Bowl.
The atmosphere in JHS this Saturday will blow away anything The Game can offer.

lol, trust me I wish I didn’t know anything about it or the fans here

I guess it's your preference. To me, the best rivalries are intrastate games where the teams and fanbases despise one another and have to live next to each other 365 days per year, regardless of the game's national relevance. Most people don't care about the Egg Bowl, but that's the game of the day imo, because it is the single most important event in the state of Mississippi every year. Same with South Carolina vs. Clemson, the Civil War in Oregon and others.

The average non-southerner has no idea where the frick Auburn even is

OSU vs Michigan and USC vs ND are the top rivalries in college football

I am going to get downvoted for this but I don’t think most people honestly care very much about that game. They’ll watch it but how many of them really really care about who wins?

The Iron Bowl is no doubt the most fierce but it’s on a much smaller scale compared to many of the other major rivalries like OSU vs UM.

I think this is true
eta: though I hear attending it live should be on your bucket list for the pre-game pageantry alone.

Michigan has barely been relevant in my dad’s lifetime. He’s 56.

Don’t lump us in with ducking Notre Dame.
