Nah. They're mostly irrelevant, and will continue that trend.

No way the SEC benefitted from anything like this...

Over the last 10-12 years? Yeah. But we've kind of earned that, don't you think? Since 2006, an SEC team has played for/won a national championship in ever single season (save 2014).

No. No one should ever "earn that."

I respectfully disagree. When the SEC continuously dominates the post-season and shows year in and year out (with an exception here and there) that they are the best of best, they have definitely earned the benefit of the doubt.

As far as the total amount of people involved, tv ratings, and overall popularity it's ohio state/michigan, and I would be surprised if it's even close. However, as far as national relevance and pure hatred for the opposing team by the fans, it has to be the iron bowl. I would much rather watch the iron bowl if both were on at the same time. Also, the atmosphere at the iron bowl is probably alot more intense than the Yankee rivalry.

That's not quite true.

Did the SEC have their BCS plug-in champ win the BCS defacto game for a good period the last 10 years?

Yes.

But the last 10 years, they're have been some average seasons:

SEC Bowl record this decade the past 10 years.

6-4
7-2
6-2
6-4
5-5
6-3
6-3
7-3
7-5
9-2

It helps to up your win % when almost every team in the SEC gets into a bowl game because everyone plays only 8 Conference games and then 4 cupcakes...and I'm not talking Kentucky, Vanderbilt, etc. So 6 cupcakes.

It's a built in extra win compared to other conferences...so the SEC always sends more teams to bowls. So the SEC will always have more wins in bowls basically. 14 teams and everyone only plays 57% of the Conference.

The sec hasnt had a losing bowl record in a long time. That's pretty impressive. Especially when you consider the caliber of bowl games and the match ups in them. The SEC is the best conference in college football, has been for a long time, and will continue to be for a long time. As the saying goes...it just means more.

But if the SEC was overrated they'd lose those games, no?

OK, I know for a fact that LSU doesn't schedule 4 cupacakes for their non conference games. Look up our past schedules and see who we have played lol. Also, weve only lost 1 of those big match ups against good programs from the other power 5 conferences...wisconsin last year at lambeau field. Hell, in 2011, LSU played the orange bowl winner, rosebowl winner, and alabama (national champion) 2 times (once in the national title game in new orleans). We kicked all of their asses except for bama the 2nd time in the national title game. Gtfo with that bs about sec teams only playing cupcakes in non conf...it's totally unsubstantiated.

That isn’t what he said at all. Man up and play nine conference games. That’s his point. The rent a win in November is bullshite.

I’ll add a couple points-

Regarding usc/nd, I think it’s more of a national showcase than heated rivalry. Growing up in LA (I’m 36), the usc/ucla rivalry had way more hatred. Sc/nd didn’t have that; it’s more of a matchup for the historians.

The iron bowl is more regional than osu/mich. the nation really only pays attention because Alabama has been so good lately. Michigan and Ohio State are 2 of the biggest schools in the country, and thus alumni and fan bases all over.

In the 90s, the 2 biggest games were Florida/FSU and um/Ohio st
