Politics in that as well?

I just remember he wasn't even the best DE on his team.

Why was he so dominant in the SEC but couldn't carry a cup of coffee in the NFL? Methinks the defenses weren't all they were cracked up to be.

Good college players don't always translate into good pros. Heisman winners are proof of that.

Michael Sam couldn't even make it in Canada.

I was coming on to say this, Ealy was getting double teamed almost every time, and our NT playing next to Sam also had a very good year.

I couldn't remember who they were, but this was the exact reason he was the DPY. The rest of the line basically took the pressure off of him to rack up the easy stats.

I do recall the draft and the passive aggressive comments from the talking heads claiming the only reason he was falling in the draft was because of his sexual preferences. Then every time he was cut it was a huge story because "teams/locker rooms were homophobic".

He will always be one of the greatest defensive players in the SEC as he was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

Sam was supposedly the SEC Defensive player of the year in the greatest / toughest college football conference ever.

his stats were worthy but he was a max effort kid in college. he was at his limit with no room for development. That is why he went 7th round.

Having said that, he did produce at a high level in preseason games. He may have deserved a better look than he got but that happens with so many players in the NFL it is hard to think he was singled out.

If I recall correctly he racked up a lot of sacks in nonconference rent a wins and in like one SEC game against a bad team. He didn’t do anything against the good teams, but his overall stats looked good.

19 TFL:
- 3 @#24 vandy (yes they were ranked)
- 3 UF
- 3 #4 USC
- 1 #18 A&M

11.5 Sacks:
- 3 @#24 vandy
- 3 UF
- 1 #4USC
- 1 @Ole Miss
- .5 #18 A&M

So the majority of his production did come in conference but the SEC only numbers were not groundbreaking. The non-con did indeed inflate them a little.

Sam had many things working against him and sexual stuff was not one of them. He was too small for the D line and body wise too big and slow for LB. He is maybe only 6' 2" That is small for the line.

He didn't exactly flop when he played:

A handful of pundits say the decision will come down to one of the final roster spots St. Louis has to offer, while others believe Sam making the Rams’ 53-man roster is a foregone conclusion based on his play the past three weeks.

Over the course of the last three preseason games, Sam has tallied some impressive numbers. Since the start of the 2014 preseason, the left defensive end has amassed 11 total tackles, three quarterback sacks and two quarterback hits.

Moreover, the analysts at Pro Football Focus (subscription required) have awarded Sam with a plus-1.1 grade overall. That’s a higher grade than the likes of fellow defensive ends Chris Long, Jerry Hughes and Chris Clemons.

By no means does that prove Sam is a better player than the three players mentioned above, because he’s not. But it does mean he has been incredibly productive on a per-snap basis and has earned a place on the Rams’ 53-man roster.

the rams waited until the final cut forthe PR and virtue signal boost of drafting him, but he wasnt any good so he never made the final cut the first year.

he was so bad that he couldnt even make any teams practice squad, then the media moved on to other virtue signaling

the rams got paid to draft him and compensated for him not making the team so they quietly went along with the fraud
