The Saints have lost so many games in so many fricked up ways over the years, its impossible for at least 10 of them not to make this list. Case in point, they lost a game in 1983 to Dallas by one point on a safety when Stabler was sacked in the end zone with a minute to play. That game doesn't even make their top 10. They lost 3 consecutive games to the Falcons in the late 70's on two hail mary's and a snap over the punters head in sudden death OT. They lost a game to the Jags after converting a last second TD on eleventeen laterals, only to miss the (still 20 yds at the time) XP and lose by one.

Dammit, just thinking about it makes me want to go to the bar.

Nationals....loss to Cardinals in Game 5 of NLDS

Up 6-0 after 3 innings...and up 7-5 going into the 9th

The poor Vikings have so many...

Drew Pearson (who pushed off) Hail Mary in 75

Darrin Nelson dropping the ball at goal line after being hit by Darrel Green in 87 to go to Superbowl

Just for me to clear
Things up. IMO a signature loss would be one that sets a team back, or keeps them as mediocre… most on here are just random losses.
Now the NFCcg loss by the Saints is because it was the last shot of making the SB. Michigans list to App. St. Was a program changer. The WVU loss to Pitt was a program changer. The 2001 Nebraska loss to Miami was a program changer. Just to name a few.

I’m sure that it’s been mentioned but Bobby Petrino and his motorcycle skills.

That was unbelievable.
That game was part of the three-team parlay LSU had to hit to get in the championship game.

I would say it was the game against Texas back in 1969. They were up 14-0 and lost 15-14 on a last min TD by James Street.

That was the beginning of the end for Nebraska.

And then Oregon smoked Colorado in the Fiesta Bowl.

Oregon should've played Miami.

He was 3-0 in the playoffs that year, but hardly dominant. And if Fernandez fields that ground ball, it just moves the game into the 12 inning.

Kansas State - A&M in 1998. Automatica missed twice.

Golden State in 2016 - got Durant the next year, but still an epic choke

Memphis bball vs Kansas in 2008. Choke City at the line.

TCU vs Georgia 65-7

Gonzaga vs Baylor 2021 - broke them

New York Knicks 1994 vs Rockets Game 7 - Starks shoots like 5-28. Missed a potential game-and-series winning three in Game Six

Yankees choking away a 3-0 lead

Boston Bruins against the Panthers last year

Suns losing Game 5 vs the Bucks in the 2021 NBA Finals

Carolina Panthers - Superbowl

Bengals - choke against the Steelers in the Wildcard round in 2015. This game broke Antonio Brown

Virginia bball in the 2018 tournament. First #1 seed to lose to a #16, and lost by 20. They won the natty in 2019, but got refs like Bama

Yankees in Game 7 of the 2001 WS. 9-11 had just happened and the magic in Games 4 and 5 seemed to be a precursor to a coronation. Soriano hit a solo jack to put the Yankees up 2-1, and the GOAT closer came on, and gave up two runs in the ninth to lose.

Kentucky Football - Bluegrass miracle

UNLV - loss vs Duke in 1991 tournament- Tark the Shark

.
NY Yankees 1960 WS game 7. Bill Mazeroski’s home run is still the only walk off homer in a winner take all WS game.

Notre Dame's signature loss is actually a tie.

And it won them the National Championship.

But its a loss because the public never forgave them.

quote:

Notre Dame vs. Michigan State, 1966
The "Game of the Century"
(1966 version)

The 1966 Notre Dame vs. Michigan State football game is considered one of the greatest and most controversial games in college football history.

Notre Dame was coached by Ara Parseghian and Michigan State was coached by Duffy Daugherty, both school legends. Michigan State entered the contest 9–0 and ranked No. 2, while Notre Dame entered 8–0 and ranked No. 1.

Notre Dame elected not to try for a score on the final series; thus, the game ended in a 10–10 tie.

The game did feature 25 All-Americans, 10 first-round picks and 31 future NFL players, arguably the most talented squads ever....better than 2001 Miami or 2004 USC.

2010 Boise State losing to Nevada. Boise was #3 at the time and as a mid-major, was a serious contender for the BCSNCG had they run the table and either Auburn or Oregon lost. It was a big game, a mid-major headliner on the last Saturday in November. #3 vs. #19. Final score: 34-31 in OT.

Nevada finished 13-1 and Boise State 12-1. Nevada lost to Hawaii. The three teams all shared the WAC title.
