Reducing roster size is what eventually created the major issues to begin with.

Four state schools in the Dakotas joining DI (even if FCS) really cracked down on Nebraska's depth too.

Lot of truth to this. We all raid the state of Nebraska and take away 3* and lower talent. It doesn't sound like much but that is depth, and some of those players develop into really good players.

You can still get to the NFL playing in the Valley. All the Dakota schools have multiple players that go pro every year.

In the 80s and 90s you had a lot of schools that honestly just didn’t really give a shite. People have a hard time wrapping their head around that now, but it just wasn’t as big of a deal to be “the best” or national champs to a lot of programs

LSU is a perfect example. We barely spent money at all. We had somewhere around the 30th highest paid coaching staff. Think about that. We also didn’t care about facilities at all

So programs like Nebraska that took it serious and went all in could come in and compete with LSU and Florida for recruits because they cared that much more

Now that there is soooo much money involved, and all schools go balls to the wall, states like Nebraska have no shot to ever be elite again

Nebraska’s best hope is to be like an Iowa or Wisky

Back in OU's & Neb's hay days, Barry Switzer said this : "There's a reason why Norman & Lincoln lead their states in bowling alleys & movie theaters. In Dec. through March there is nothing to do in either city." Referencing how hard it is to recruit players out of the East & major cities in the South. Doubt it's changed much in either state today.

Yes, but it "could" have a reverse effect for them. It is a long shot tho.

They signed a nice recruiting class. I think they will turn it around. It will take time and they need patience.

Nebraska signs a nice recruiting class every year. They've done that for the last twenty years no matter the coach. That place is where talent goes to die.

maybe it’s because they actually pay for the recruiting websites there? The sites know what fanbases pay and overrate the recruits accordingly, and Nebraska fans don’t have much interaction with actual recruits that let them know how the process goes

At least Norman is within 30 min of OKC and OKC has now a big city and has quite a bit to do.

Lincoln doesn't have that luxury, although OMA is only less than an hour away.

Lincoln has more than 220,000 people.
Omaha is almost 290,000 people.

I can assure you there are things to do in both cities.

Not really directed at Sparty, but its always easy to see who has never been there by the nothing to do comments.

I feel like I see this thread 3 times a month.

Just because a team was once good doesn't mean they should still be good. Same goes for Tennessee.

Will never be big again. No recruits want to live in Lincoln Nebraska.

Callahan, Riley and to a large extent Pelini refused to recruit the Midwest. Nebraska signs top 15-25 classes year in and out, but they have no identity. Nebraska signs all these 4 star players from Florida and the south, but if you look back at teams from the past 15 years, majority of the biggest contributors to the team are kids from the Midwest.

His first few years, I think Frost was trying to mine as much Florida talent as possible because of his connections while at UCF. This years class is much more local, a little more low key, but one where he can start to build a base around. Problem is he should have probably done that 2 years ago

I've been to Lincoln and Omaha...they are fantastic places. Also went to a game at Nebraska a few years ago.
