What happened to Michigan, Miami, and Tennessee?

Nebraska borders Wyoming, Kansas, South Dakota, Colorado, Iowa, and Wyoming.
Oklahoma shares a border with Texas.

Grab a map and find Oklahoma and Nebraska. Besides the obvious climate difference, take a look at the surrounding states.

Fired Frank. Same thing that happened to Texas firing Mack. Texas and Nebraska will tell you both needed to go, but neither program has been the same since. These things go in cycles, but Nebraska and Tennessee are not the same programs they were in the 90s largely due to lack of local talent. It’s hard for schools outside of the south to recruit nationally.

Cracked down on steroids.

Karma for firing Solich after a 10 win season.

They stopped running the option

Four state schools in the Dakotas joining DI (even if FCS) really cracked down on Nebraska's depth too.

Solich is probably a better coach than anything NU has had since(we'll see on Frost) but the cliff was coming for them no matter what.
Texas is a lot like Mack's last 4 years. Mack was 30-21 18-17 in conference. Herman is 31-18 22-13 in conference. Lost the division all 8 seasons.

There’s a specific way to win there that may not be possible to replicate again.
1. Devaney and Osborne built a dynasty on massive rosters.
2. The Nebraska walk-on program was an unsung hero for decades. It was effectively eradicated with regional small schools siphoning talent and cost of attendance sky rocketing.
3. Nebraska no longer has a massive edge in strength and conditioning they held for years.
4. Prop 48 was eliminated in 2001. Nebraska couldn’t add skill guys that were bypassed by California, Texas, and Florida schools because of grades.
5. They made a series of hires that were bad cultural fits.
6. Leaving the Big 12 for the Big Ten was likely the death blow for getting back to blue blood status.

When the NCAA eliminated partial qualifying, that was the end for Nebraska

I feel like Alabama deserves a similar post but conversely from a Nebraska fan.
Rich Rod and Bill Callahan involved.

Why do we get this thread like every three weeks
Answer #1 is no more steroid program

I don’t like saying never for any program trying to make a comeback, because never is a long time. But Nebraska has more stacked against them than most major powers.

There is zero talent within a 500 mile radius of campus. They were basically flying kids that could hardly read on private jets, etc. Maybe if scholarships are reduced to 65 or other drastic rule changes, but not in the current environment.

The game passed Solich by. There is no denying it.
Firing him in 2003 was the right thing. Jamal Lord was gone, Joe Davies was not the answer.
The wrong thing was hiring Bill Callahan. That was such a drastic change that it set them back.
Frost has them in the right direction. They need a real QB.
