Their alumni (Sapp, Lewis, Irvin, Reed, etc.) even seem checked out.
It doesn’t help that kids being recruited today were -5 years old when Miami last won a conference championship. The mystique of the U really only exists anymore with people 35+ and the school itself is taking the Tulane route of de-emphasizing athletics

NIL could be a way out but if alums don’t have that passion anymore and the student body keeps getting nerdier they aren’t getting out of that. GT has the same issue

What could be restored would likely only be temporal and wiped upon coaching turnover

They've never recovered from that 2002 title game loss. One minute they are being called "the greatest team in history", going for back-to-back titles, on a 30+ game winning streak. They lost that Title game and dropped off the face of the earth. Kind of bizarre.

They won that game. BS pass interference.

All I know that it is a small private school in the rich part of Miami and the academic level there is high. Will the football team ever be a dynasty again?

Tulane fixed to go a run. Win the AAC with 10+ wins. Squeak into the playoffs and then wreck shite and win 4-5 national titles and 1 sellout.

Go back and watch the game. 2 mins left, OSU had a catch that was in, a first down, and could have ran out the clock. Bad call against OSU, ruled incomplete. Today it would be reviewed and game over. Then, go back and watch the jersey grab on the PI, it was at least defensive holding which is still first down. Maybe you should learn something about football and stfu too.

It starts at the tippy top. Their issue is the BOT and university president view it as an academic school and give very few shits about football.

Instead of renovating the orange bowl, an intimidating home field stadium, they tore it down.

And didn’t even build a new stadium. They renovated another stadium from the 80s

They need to play on campus for one. Build a more college friendly stadium.

Miami and SMU are similar now, small and rich private schools, will have some decent teams but their backyard… while full of talent, will be constantly raided by the SEC and others. No recruits these days give a damn about “the U” as us old timers remember it.

Donna Shalala is what happened. She stuck a fork in Miami football being the focal point of the school

Kind of surprising as UW football was absolutely atrocious when she came to Wisconsin with the AD losing money. Pat Richter and Alvarez were hired within a year of her arrival.

It wasn’t a game in 2002 but a change in the college football landscape. In the early 00s, the popularity of college football ball was ascending and TV money started to flow. Many traditional powers invested the money in their programs. Big time coaches, facilities like nutritional centers, players only dorms and academic centers, weight rooms, locker room etc. Miami did none of this in the 00s and early 10s and thought they could keep up because of their location. Turns out that for 17 & 18 year olds football stars, nice shite trumps a beach.

The university president before her, Tad Foote, was the one who led that charge. I don't know if Shalala did anything but let what had already been set into motion happen.

The university just doesn't have the alumni support to support a big time program long term.

Your alumni have to be ALL IN and it can't be any less than 100% in.

What they did in the 90s was possible due to their geographic region and with NIL and media the U is not the same level brand they once were compared to other schools.

Ruiz is their entire NIL.

Yeah this isn't mentioned enough. Back in the 80s and 90s they had FSU to compete against? I don't even think UF was a major player until Spurrier came along.

Now you have Miami, UF, FSU, FAU, FIU, UCF (not to mention UGA, Bama, and LSU) all eating from the same recruiting trough. There just isn't as much talent to go around as there used to be. Miami has to work harder to get fewer recruits than they could've gotten in the 90s, and their administration hasn't demonstrated a lot of enthusiasm to invest more into their football program.

It’s more than that… the whole damn country recruits Miami now
