b/c the rounds need to go somewhere and will likely make the prices increase and the other courses more crowded....
Sounds like it was just overrun with cheap memberships, they wanted $50 on the weekend for that track...don't think SM is going to raise their prices just because Sherwood closed.

A PhD in turf pretty much means you are gonna become a professor or a full-time researcher at a seed company. Masters is almost overkill for just becoming a superintendent, but obviously more education means more pay. Most turf managers either get a 2 year certificate, a 4 year bachelors degree, or learn it by trade.
I definitely enjoy the research, but I wanna be out on the golf course. I wanna have a course that I can take pride in. Maybe down the road, I could see myself getting back into research or working for a company doing consulting for different courses.
For tee times, I plan on calling the courses superintendent and saying I'd love to come tour your course and see how you run things. I also would love for a chance to get a round in.

Rounds going somewhere else will help other area courses, if they use the money correctly.

So that Weave guy leaves for boot camp and his course shuts down? He was definitely playing too much!

At this rate, jakesonaplane will buy it all while he's laid up on his bum ankle.

Say what you will about the place. The fact of the matter is baton rouge and more specifically the Sherwood forest neighborhood lost a good thing with the closing of the oaks. It's a shame.

I will miss it, assuming it doesn't find it's way back open somehow

Based on one poster's experience over this past weekend, it didn't seem that "good".

Pretty sure another company will come in and take it over, just like Copper Mill. A Billy Casper Golf co. will come in and bleed the assets and run after a few years.

I'm talking a bigger picture... Thinking demographics of the area and the decline of the oaks neighbors property value

My annual 4th of July Devil's Cup is this weekend!
A 2-man rotating scramble with 4 people. 6-6-6 hole format. We each pair up as teammates for 6 holes. After 18 holes we all have different scores. Winner gets the Devil's Cup Trophy!!!! This is all after us playing 18 holes and being sufficiently drunk!
