Just saw the email about the Oaks being closed. Damn, sucks arse. I liked it a lot, was contemplating joining in a year. Gonna miss it.

One of the big issues is that people/companies can not write off memberships anymore for tax purposes.

In the last 10 years, 4 BR courses have shutdown: Briarwood, Shenandoah, Fairwood and now the Oaks.
Any guesses to the next course biting the bullet?

mainly because people are having a tough time justifying $5,000+ initiation fees and $250+ a month bills for leisure at one site.

Yeah.. I forgot about that, but the Bluffs is a great course and the owner got his arse handed to him in the real estate collapse.
The other 4, not so much.

Starkville has 2 courses. One private.

States course does well. Turf program and the PGA management program provide cheap labor.

Putt, I know there is alot of Old Money at NOCC and MCC but they must have seen some effect in the last few years.

From what I hear they have one of the best turf management programs in the country there

My buddy worked there during the initial downturn. There was no change in anything at NOCC. They actually hired two extra people because they HAD to spend the money.

Not really in terms of the bottom line as they have just allowed more people to join that usually would not have had the opportunity to join in the past. There will always be people willing to jump on the chance to join a place like NOCC. The last decade or so more access has been giving to "regular type" people and thus the membership numbers have remained constant.
