Algeria =/= South Africa. Not a damn thing in common. If anything, those people will cheer for England.
And the USA crushed Egypt last summer, so bring on Algeria.
I think the US is a bit better than Algeria, but they were also better than Iran a couple of World Cups ago, and we saw what happened. It would be nice to see the US advance, but I dont think you can take it for granted.

No one is guaranteeing advance, especially with our current injury list.
Just saying its very likely and we're in a great position. We got a beatable, or at least drawable, England (who've been poor in international competitions [No Euro, No Confed Cup, etc]) and who the US match up well with.
We like our chances.
Piss off England. (ETA: new sig pic bitches)

Admittedly I havent followed the US qualifying campaign all that much. I did like the look of the forward (Klijstan?) when I saw him.
Is Adu still part of the team?
If the US gets through, then I think they could roll Germany, who arent all that impressive right now.

Both of these guys probably won't be on the World Cup roster.

For fwiw, I think it's entirely normal for an English national living in the US to not really care about the US team.
If I lived in Italy, I would still hate those Jersey Shore prima donnas

Man just started watching Jersey Shore. I hate guidos, but this shite is GREAT! Makes me hate Italy and their rigged group even more. New Zealand FTW

I just finished watching the 2 hour season premiere. It's going to be a hell of a show
HH, for what's it worth, Europeans seem to be respecting the US a lot more now than in 2006. They think the US is sound defensive team with discipline that can be like Sweden in the mid-90s or Paraguay in the early part of this decade, always a team to that competes but never a true contender.
That's a big step up. I think the 2002 games against Mexico and Germany helped, but the 2009 CC games really pushed the US to international respect.

With the right players, we can compete. Is Jermaine Jones gonna be here?

Personally I think you're pretty much bang on. There isnt much that seperates teams at this level, and WC matches are usually exercises in who makes the fewest mistakes. Which is why it is usually those teams who have players that can do that little extra do well. I dont see that the US has those world class players right now.

Just for the record.....I would love to punch Wayne Rooney in the mouth.

Join the queue. But not before Ashley Cole and lampard.
The only US player I annot stand is that minced donovan.

So how does a British expatriate become an LSU fan?

This is Donavan's year to put up or shut up. He can make a real name for himself in US soccer lore with a win over England
Posted on 12/5/09 at 11:32 am to JEAUXBLEAUX
You're right JewBleaux, a win over England in the WC would be bigger than the win over Spain in the Confed. Cup
