it's a shame that the most of best and most talented atheletes in this country go to football and bball. if soccer got a few the us would be a real contender.

I'm not sure if donovan would make the England squad.

Admittedly I havent followed the US qualifying campaign all that much. I did like the look of the forward (Klijstan?) when I saw him.

I mean he's not a Gerrard or Lampard but I think he would be better than a Walcott, Agbonlahor, or Beckham at this point in his career. I don't know who Capello chooses as his reserve attacking mids.

I think the only guys on the US who would make the England roster are Howard (starter), Donovan (back-up mid), and maybe Onyewu and Dempsey. Jones would have an outside chance as a holding midfielder, assuming he had some previous history with the team since he has been injured for so long.

Nevertheless, I think that the US can give England a decent game, and it can either way. I'll stick with a 2-1 England win for now, but it should be fun to watch.

HH, Jones and Edu both started training this week so they should be good to go in a few weeks. Then again, both have had some problems with rehabbing their injuries up to this point, with lots of delays. I hope DeMerit's eyeball is better after that surgery, but I couldn't find an update.

I'd like to see Jones Torres and Bradley on the field at the same time. 3 central midfielders with dempsey and donovan playing high and jozy up top. robbie findley on the bench for some 2nd half speed if we need it.

so what are you suggesting

4-3-2-1 with a somewhat lack of an outside game?

You don't lack an outside game because on offense, your 3 "center mids" spread out wide and donovan and dempsey fill in the gaps. on defense, your 3 center mids collapse and play tight in together in the center of the field. especially against england, if we can cut out their central midfield and force them to play out wide, we'll have a better shot. donovan is in great shape so he'll have no problem getting back in on defense all game, dempsey will be able to do it for about 60-70 minutes and then you bring on a sub.

It's not really a wing but yeah, I would have Torres and Bradley outside with Jones in the middle.

Defense -- notice how it compresses the field and makes it harder for England to get the ball to Gerrard and Rooney.

When we have the ball, notice how Donovan and Dempsey are both up the field and out wide. Jozy pushes up a little further and notice the space it gives for Jose and Bradley to make their runs into the box.
