Deion hated contact, which is why he is lower in tackles and leads in pick sixes
Sanders has 9 career pick 6's. Woodson has 12..
The tackles, sacks, and fumble recoveries are no where near close. Woodson is way ahead.
I'm still waiting. How is Sanders a better CB?

Rod Woodson was the best NFL DB I watched growing up.
He'd tackle, he'd cover, he'd make things happen if he got the ball.
Sanders is the best cover corner of all time; Rod Woodson was the most complete. He had the entire package and was just as good as safety.

Because Prime told him so. That poster is just another one who is easily mesmerized by shameless self-promoters.

Cornerback is the most unique position in sports in that the lower your stats are, the better you are as a player because it usually means QBs aren't throwing in your direction. But I've always felt like Deion was a better CB but Woodson was the better DB and football player. Woodson tore his ACL and lost all of his speed but was able to adjust his game to become a beast of a safety into his late 30s. Like I don't think Deion would have been able to do that.

I wasn't a Deion fan but he could flat play some corner. He wasn't going to support the run physically/violently but he did it in his own way. He was hired to cover people, not stop the run.

No. I'm sorry that is a silly argument. Sanders is a HOFer cause of what he did on the field. Not cause teams tried to avoid him. His #s are great and they show him to be a great player. Woodson is just superior.

I think you are taking a position and trying to make it all about one thing, covering someone. Playing CB is about way more than that. But if you are saying Sanders is the greatest cover guy ever, than alright. Maybe he is..

Deion would close off one half of the field… his speed was lethal .

To be fair, he played an extra 50 games. That's an extra 20+% of career, (238 vs 188)

Best overall DB might be Ronnie Lott. Had 23 int’s as a CB, then switched to Safety and had 40 more. Also unlike Deion, he had a shitload of tackles.

Woodson had over double the tackles and triple the fumble recoveries. Sanders had 1 sack, Woodson had 13.5. Maybe Sanders gets close in Ints playing an additional 50 games, but his best 3 year stretch is 16 (needs 18 to tie). He wasn't going to get anywhere close to that in those 3 years he missed being retired..

“Neon” Deion is massively overrated as a CB. I remember watching him at FSU when they played Auburn and he bailed out on plays repeatedly; I recall the play by play guy describing Deion as “asleep at the switch “ when he left receivers open over and over.
Then in the NFL he was always looking for ways to promote himself, get INTs,avoid contact, and get ready for “Prime Time” interviews. His teammates reportedly berated him for his sideshow behavior that took the team focus away from winning (one example of this was Jerry Rice when the 49ers rented Deion for a year).
I would take all those other CBs (Bailey, Haynes, Williams, Woodson, etc…..) way before Deion. Give me a player with heart that puts the team first, and that means a lot more than a me-first “Prime Time” player.

Best DB’s are
Dick Night Train Lane
Prime
Woodson
Lott
Revis
Atwater
Reed
Shell
Now how you order them is preference but any one of those guys makes your DB scary good

Interesting comparison since Ozzie was pedestrian at the plate compared to other Shortstops.
Different conversation entirely but A) Ozzie’s offensive woes are generally overstated, and B) short stop is a position on the field not at the plate. And the Wizard was the best in the field.

A CB that's a pure hard hitter, I'm going to go a bit further back with Ronnie Lott.
