Pretty sure I said it right.
91 fights----all but 4 scheduled for more than 4 rounds.
2 x 6 rounds, 1 x 8 rounds and 1 x 10 rounds.

They way you are saying it sounds like only 4 were scheduled for four rounds.

He's definitely saying it wierd.
Instead of saying 'all but', he should be saying 'only'

Legitimate fighters don’t only fight 4 rounders. He was a circus sideshow that got utterly obliterated when he fought outside 4 round boxing matches.

Better than a club fighter, not as good as world class fighters. He had some power and a little skill but most of the top 30 heavyweights in the world would have beaten him or outlasted him easily

Butterbean was legit. He wasn't going to win anything bigtime but he was a legit fighter. Put it this way there were fighters who got their arse beat by Tyson in the 80's during his run that would have lost to Butterbean.

You’re saying it wrong. Take out the ‘but 4’ and say it.

For 4 rounds he was a beast.

He was a good boxer when it came to 4 round fights. Never elite or a contender. He lost to Larry Holmes when Holmes was 52.

A lot of those 4 rounders were K1 which is the standard.. he was also getting kicked in those fights. Also pride had a 20 minute first round and was MMA.. He was a legit fighter.

Saw him knock out the ref at Casino Magic. Ref stepped in just as he launched a punch and the ref got nailed.

Esch had fought Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield or Bowe, he would have been stopped relatively early(by the 4th Round).
You name 4 of the best HW boxers ever, and think you have a good point lol

This thread is pretty interesting to me because Boxing is a singular type of pursuit. Conversations on boxing tend to go that a boxer is either capable of winning titles or he's a bum. Butterbean fits in the nuance. He was never going to be a top contender, but he did win a superheavy title for whatever that is worth (not a ton).
Butterbean was a legitimate boxer because he was skilled and had an elite trait, power. He was not a contender for world titles and not a 12 round guy. He fits in the class of boxers either one or two tiers below top contender. Think like a Mickey Ward. Could beat anyone in his class, but not dominant. Because of his power, Butterbean had the punchers chance, but he wasn't going to beat any top guys outside of a flash knockout. Most top guys are too skilled to get flashed in all but the most rare circumstances.
All that to say, he wasn't a bum, but he wasn't an elite total boxer. He was never going to get any top fights because fighting him was all downside for top contenders--no credit for beating him, disastrous for your career if he knocked you out.
The 4 round thing complicates it because that format is a novelty, but it was also how Butterbean made his money. Promoters wanted those fights on TV so he signed up for them in droves.

Missed his calling as an NFL OL

My mistake. I'm not to knowledgeable. I just remember him always being really out of shape.
You don’t need to be in shape when the goal is to end the fight in 30 seconds

Butterbean is from my home town. Really nice guy. He was a massive man. And as said earlier strong and tuff as nails. He has a BBQ and Steak place now. Not a great boxer but you definitely didn't want to get in a slugfest with him.
