His knockout of Bart Gunn is still the scariest KO I've seen in boxing.

Made his head do a 180

Legitimate and mean too. Also funny as hell, see him with the jackass crew.
Knoxville just did Steve-O's podcast with the new movie coming out. He said he had vertigo I think for months after getting knocked out by Butterbean.
Probably didn't help that he hit his head on the way down too.

Well, the guy had a total of 91 professional bouts in the ring with all but 4 of them scheduled for more than 4 rounds.
He won 2 fights scheduled for 6 rounds early in his career, won an 8 round decision and his only real opponent was a long retired Larry Holmes that beat Butterbean by Unanimous Decision over 10 rounds in 2002.
Was he legit, yeah in the sense he did climb through the ropes and fight against other pros, although most of them were "Tomato Cans".
Was he elite, hell no, but a hell of a novelty and fun to watch while it lasted.
Oh, and make no mistake, for a guy his size to go four rounds in the ring is no easy task.

One of the best KO reels out there. He packed a wallop

He got up after that. Then this happened.

The neck snapping off the rope like that is what made it so scary looking. Thank god WWE wasn't using elevator cables like WCW did.

I told him I was from Alabama (I think he lived there at some point). He bought me a beer. That's all I got.
I think he lives in Jasper.

I think his walk out song was “sweet home Alabama.”

Of course he was a novelty… he only fought 4 round exhibition matches against local tomato cans… a bunch idiots in this thread don’t know shite about boxing if they consider Butterbean “skilled”

I think you meant to say the opposite

I remember the Brawl for All and Bart winning it but I had no idea those idiots actually made him box Butterbean until I saw it on DSOTR. Jesus that whole segment was painful, Bart's knockout of punk arse Bradshaw was just as bad. Big bad JBL looked like he'd legit never eat solid food again

No, the guy was never legit. He was perhaps, though, the pinnacle of 'tough guy' event fighters, semi pro types, and was King of the 4 to 10 Rounders-- he got paid to fight, so maybe in that sense you could call him a professional, but he was fundamentally a novelty act.
Real, legitimate professional earn your keep and be known as a professional fighting has been 10 rounds of more for a very long time-- you might see some guys who fought 8 round bouts occassionally grow up and out of that, and become full fledged 10 round professionals who might eventually contend in 12 round championship boxing.
Butterbean was great entertainment value, though; if you don't laugh when watching him harm the crew of Jackass, you have no sense of humor.

Johnny Knoxville after getting his head busted open: “Is Butterbean okay?”
I was around 12 when this came out. There was literally nothing funnier.
I got the movie either that Christmas or the next and I couldn't tell you how many times I watched it
