Why was the 1b so far off??

Defensive shift

Right handed batter is a lot more likely to hit a ground ball up the middle for a base hit than to hit one down the 1st base line. So looks like they were trying to protect against one going up the middle that would have probably score the runner from 2nd and won the game.

But in that shift, the 1B shouldn't have tried to field anything more than 1 step to his right. That was the 2B's ball to field and the 1B should have been running back to cover 1st. Pitcher also screwed up by not covering 1st quick enough once the 1B took multiple steps towards 2nd trying to field a ball he shouldn't have.

Well the 1st basemen is 27 years old and has played 1st base less than 70 innings in his life, all coming this year

It's his fault, but it's tough to adjust from MIF where you're chasing everything, to 1B where your range is very limited by default.

Seems like the atmosphere at rays games has been much better in that minor league park

This is the only answer. Made even more egregious knowing they were in a shift.

The Rangers didn't start the season with any thought of Josh playing first. The plan was short, third and second, maybe some outfield. But he's hitting too well to leave him off the starting roster. His .266 batting average leads the team. 2025 Rangers Sports Refererence homepage

two titles, a decade of dominance, and yet you can’t help but project the littlest of little brother energy. also love the comp of one player taking PED’s to a systematic multi years long sign stealing scandal. it’s fitting that the instrument used for Houston was a literal fricking garbage can

C'mon, that ringing 2-run ground ball had an exit velo of at least 40 MPH.

Everybody is "doing the Marlins" these days. How many recent WS winners are absolute shite this year?

The only thing possibly worse than being a Rangers fan would be having to live in the Arlington/DFW area.
