I agree that pot should not disqualify you, but if you know going in that it's banned then she should have decided to not partake in the herb.

Yep, the rule is utterly stupid. And yet she's also utterly stupid for breaking the rule if the Olympics aren't important to her.

Luckily for her, this is just the beginning of her Olympic career. I have no doubt, she’ll bounce back and we’ll see her in the 100m next Olympics. Feel for her tho.

A few days before the Trials, Richardson learned about her mother's death during an interview with a reporter. She later ingested marijuana while in Oregon for the U.S. Olympic Trials. She said the moment she learned of the death was "triggering" and "nerve-shocking" and sent her into an emotional panic.

I didn't even see this beforehand. Ok I can have some sympathy for her now. She wasn't just smoking just for the hell of it. She was smoking to cope with the pain of losing her freaking mom. I can't and won't judge that imo. Not to mention having to find that news out from a random news reporter. Unfathomable.

Did he ever fail a test? I thought someone took a pic of him smoking, 6 months before the Olympics and he was suspended for 3 months, due to the pic.

Correct. He got busted for toking a bong in a photo. Clown world then, clown world now.

IOC is a corrupt POS.

Will let a male to female trans athlete compete with Testosterone levels anywhere from 5-10 times higher than a typical elite athlete, but piss and moan about some weed in an athletes system.

Yup. That’s low grade Bs from the reporter there. To learn from a reporter FIRST that your mother died? Well yea, I’d probably go smoke a bong/get drunk too.

Just to clarify, she was raised by an aunt and her grandmother. I don’t believe her birth mom had much to do in her life. Which, IMO, kinda makes the death even worse. So many unanswered questions and whatnot.

I was wondering why she found out that way.

75% of the field plus she would be competing against is actually doping and she can't run because she ate an edible.

Makes sense

For pot?

Jesus this stupid arse planet.

Who wants to bet how many dopers get past testing to compete, but a little Mary J gets you suspended and your times disqualified?

Clown world.

Agree.

On the other hand, if you know weed is on the banned list and you know you're going to get tested AND you're in a sport whose big event happens once every 4 years, toking is a very, very dumb thing to do.

I agree, but people tend to make dumb decisions in the wake of the death of a parent

Yeah the way she worded it after she won was very noteworthy. “This week I learned my mother passed away.” Made it clear she had a non-traditional relationship.

I know she rubs a lot of people here the wrong way but she has had a very different upbringing from most of the US team that grew up middle/upper middle class in stable, two parent homes and are much more polished in their media appearances (Norman, Rai Benjamin, Felix, Randall Cunningham’s daughter, the Harvard sprinter in the 200, etc).

The men may be clean. I believe none have broken 10 seconds this year except Blake at 9.98

I never knew weed was on doping list.

Figured it would of been phased out, if it was, years ago.

Other than causing her to get hungry, and laid back, tired, what exactly is the problem here? Is Alcohol on list?

I think Tosh had a whole bit about how there is no way its ever a performance enhancing drug.

They should add caffeine to the list as well. That's more of a performance enhancer than weed

fun fact about this, they didn’t have THC on the banned substance list until Ross Rebagliati won gold in 1998 with it in his system.

I can sympathize.

And I’d rather see her smoke some pot to deal with it then have some doctor hand her a bunch of benzos.

She smoked it in a legal state and to deal with a mental health issue. There should be some exemption for that.

Very funny to me that the same people who are declaring NC State the national champions are also now like “well, rules are rules!!!”
