NCAA moved the goalposts on that one.
Equivalent here would be if the Olympics said they were deferring to state law on weed and then suspended her for weed.

So unfortunate, such a dumb rule.
They raised the limit for a positive test in 2013 to 150 nanograms. You would of had to smoke 24 hrs before the race to break 150 while knowing they’re gonna test you. Of course they shouldn’t be testing but there’s not many easier tests to pass.

I originally said it was a dumb decision by her, and I want to walk back that take a little bit.
It wasn’t smart, but when you’re coping with the death of a family member, it makes way more sense to me.

She has already accepted her punishment and stated she made a mistake during what would be a difficult time in anybody's life. She has been nothing but apologetic and remorseful

The rule can be stupid, and she can also be stupid for breaking the rule. She trained her arse off for 4 years, and then knowing weed is against the rules AND being within 30 days of the games, she goes out and smokes weed? That's just a colossal level of stupid even if the rule is dumb, which it is.

Whether it's stupid or not changes nothing. If you know the rules and choose to break them, you need to live with the consequences. She seems to be doing that as gracefully as possible right now.
Everyone saying she should not be suspended is just plain wrong though. If that's the case let's never suspend anyone for anything. Hell, let's dump all rules.
