The rumor (emphasis on rumor) going around UNLV is that Sluka went to Odom’s office at some point this week and demanded an increase in NIL, which Odom said they couldn’t do and thus Sluka got angry and decided to utilize his redshirt and transfer.

Who the hell wants and is paying for this??..

I guess there is a desperate enough coach out there who will be willing to take this guy after he quit on his teammates.

Similarly, some players will probably accept him as well.

Going by that 3 game sample, there's only a matter of time before these collectives realize they aren't getting the return they expected on their investment. At some point the market will reset itself.

At least under the old system of paying under the table, an athlete knew that he was pretty much tied to a program once he accepted the money. And if he did end up transferring, it was more than likely because he sucked.

Yeah: This dude should be blackballed.

If he is actually worth money, just let him go to the NFL combine.

Would be incredibly dumb to reward this behavior— assuming NIL motivation is true.

Any coach or program to take this kid in should also be blackballed. Don’t schedule to play them. Don’t hire the coach— assuming they pay him and he doesn’t end up in a “last chance” situation

Which sounds like what is happening here. The kid says he didn't get the funds he was promised. The promiser seems to have told the kid that a sub 50% completion rate wasn't worth shite. So, the kid bolts and the market corrects itself.

I think this really stupid move by the QB. He isn’t good enough for a huge NIL pay day and UNLV has a chance at the playoffs. If he was playing at a high level and a big time program came calling I can understand the move.

Honestly, UNLV may benefit from this. Sluka was an crafty runner, but a pretty mediocre passer. If Hajj-Malik Williams can make better use of Ricky White and Jacob De Jesus at wide receiver, I honestly think UNLV's offense will be more dangerous.

You left off his rushing stats. In 3 games, he went for over 250 yards combined (over 6 yards a carry). He led the nation in rushing yards for a QB last season, while at Holy Cross.

This is a tough one. He had a really great career at Holy Cross as a 4 year starter. He's not an NFL prospect. But he had the additional year to get paid with NIL at a bigger program. So he went for it, but someone didn't deliver what was promised (per his understanding). I think I would leave too. He was brought in as a mercenary. Mercenaries get paid. Someone else will give him what he's seeking..

Why do people care about this any more than a Gary Indiana semi pro team.? This all started with academic institutions that had recreational activities for students. Then it morphed into a bunch of athletes that went to school not to learn but to further their athletic pursuits …yet people became obsessed over some strange tribal loyalty to the institution and not really the players. Now it’s mercenaries. It is really nonsensical

Idk what is true, but if the kid is telling the truth…. Why are ppl sayihg he quit on his teammates ? If your job made you promises , then refused to give them to you and you quit. I don’t see that as quitting on your coworkers.

Again, idk which version is true.

Sluka needs to publish some receipts on what he was promised v what was delivered. That way no one can trash him or spread rumors.

If Villicana's tweet is accurate, isn't that considered tampering or impermissible contact since we are outside of the portal window?

I would think wherever he signs will be under some heavy scrutiny.

According to the articles I read, he has an offer in hand now. So he's going to go there next season. They can sign him now, since NIL can't be tied to a school. So he'll get paid up front.

If he's lying about not getting what he was offered, then that'll be exposed and he will suffer. If he's telling the truth, then I can't blame him. He had one season to cash out. I would have done the same thing. It was a one year agreement. Everybody has to honor it. It doesn't matter if he plays bad (which he's not)..
