UNC, FSU, Clemson, and UVA looking to join SEC

The NCAA is dead. Big 10 and SEC will end up breaking off and making their own league. It took 1 year of NIL to bring it all down. If only the NCAA used those two years they begged for to make some NIL rules.
No sports league in the world would allow what’s going on in college football. 24/7/365 free agency with no contracts or salary cap.

SOURCE: North Carolina, Florida State, Clemson, and Virginia are all negotiating to join the SEC. ESPN is trying to void their TV deal with the ACC.

Might as well in Duke and Miami. Duke for the bball and Miami to keep the Big10 out of the southeast.

Brett McMurphy basically said the same thing a few days ago:

With the Big Ten’s impending monster media rights deal, don’t expect the SEC to stand pat.
“Even by adding Oklahoma and Texas, the SEC is not going to sit back and watch the Big Ten and let things happen,” a source said.
The SEC would likely target current ACC schools, such as Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina or Virginia, sources said. However, those schools would have to find a way out of the ACC’s Grant of Rights, which doesn’t expire until 2036.
Maybe the SEC pursues Oklahoma State to join OU in the league or adds other Big 12 schools. “Everything that seemed impossible just a few years ago is now a possibility,” an industry source said about any future realignment moves.

True- and its all on Mark Emmert.

This was inevitable well BEFORE the NIL ruling. NIL is not directly leading to this. Every conference is looking for huge media rights contracts. The SEC and Big 10, as the two most popular and powerful conferences, were the best suited to take advantage...starting, at minimum, with the SEC's acquisition of A&M and Missouri. The Big 10 then grabbed Nebraska, Rutgers, Maryland, and the arms race was on.
USC and UCLA knew the Pac 12 was falling behind, so they took the opportunity to hitch their brands to a more lucrative conference. The Big 10 obviously wanted the huge LA market. Now, teams in the Pac 12, ACC, Big 12 are surveying the landscape and doing whatever they feel is necessary to not be left behind when the Big 10 and SEC inevitably renegotiate even bigger media deals.
I do agree that we are hurdling to a point where the Big 10 and SEC are essentially their own league. But I don't think NIL is the driving factor...just a collateral one.
The other question is what happens to bowl games? The Rose Bowl has always stood fast on its long history and was (to some degree) and impediment to the creation and growth of the CFP. With USC and UCLA out of the Pac 12, and the conference as a whole soon to be a shell of it's former self, the Rose Bowl game as we know it will soon be over...followed shortly thereafter by an expanded playoff and end to the bowl games in their current form.

Duke will turn into Tulane in about 15 years. Coach K is gone.

The person who tweeted that is a writer for a swimming news company.

I agree. I wouldn't touch them for a long term commitment like conference membership. They are one shitty basketball coaching hire away from reality.

Minus the fact that they’ve been an elite basketball program forever now and have elite academics
