With the movement and speed that’s truly remarkable

The problem is the level of players has outpaced the level of umps. It was easier to get these calls back in the day with lower velocity as you’ve said.

If we didn’t have an alternative, we would just live with and move along. But we do have an alternative.

That dude has no business being a home plate umpire calling balls/ strikes.

I mean, people have bad days but he wasn't close on some of those then you have the Trevor Story check swing he called a strike which should have come from the 1st base umpire to top off his bad day.

imagine what will happen in college baseball. the umps are way worse and are missing calls half a foot out of the strike zone

It doesn't get any worse than CB. He is a 100% DEI Hire. He's been horrendous and incompetent since he came up. Hernandez and cowboy Joe West, just got more criticism, he was much worse.

Eventually basketball fouls should be called using multi angle sensors with officials there to aid the process.

They definitely need to get rid of the "he drove to the basket so he must have got touched" foul

I wouldn't call 92% remarkable.

92% on balls +/- 1" from the strike zone would be great. 92% on all pitches where the batter didn't swing is not impressing me much.

What about Ron Kulpa and Andy Fletcher? They’re as bad as Bucknor. Are they DEI hires?

Had a broadcast talk about this and they were saying it’s a cube and isn’t just a 2 dimensional square. One of those discussions where they were explaining why fans see pitches 1 way, but the umps & ABS will see it different

Well, you missed understanding the talk, because the strike zone in the rule book is a 3D rectangle and the ABS is a flat plane in the middle of the plate.

There are definitely strikes by the book that are called balls by ABS.

Personally I think anything within 1 in should not be overturned.

Any sort of replay / automation should be for bad calls, not razor close calls.

I watched the Red Sox/Reds game today (Boston announcers) and they were discussing the adventures of CB from Saturday. They think that Bucknor did not grant an appeal on a check swing late in the game in order to retake control of them game after being embarrassed by ABS. Guy is a real jerk.

I'd love to see Angel Hernandez in an ABS world.

All anyone has ever wanted from MLB umps is consistency. And they can’t do it. Put fricking AI in.

I expect to see a lot of this by July. I also expect the guys that are bad are going to be getting more appeals as managers try to expose them or call them out. As a manager you’re probably not gonna appeal a borderline call in the 6th inning with a guy you respect behind the plate.

Can’t wait till someone appeals a call in the 1st to really set the tone for the rest of the game
