its funny how all my friends who were too dumb to get into LSU call it UL while everyone i know calls it ULL... the only people who call it University of Louisiana are people who attend that school

Damn...I didn't mean to set off a war zone around here.
My purpose of this thread wasn't to complain that ULL calls themselves UL or Louisiana, or whatever. As an LSU fan, I don't give a damn what they are called. The only thing I care about is the scoreboard when they face off. I don't care if they put UL-Lafayette, Louisiana or ULL on the scoreboard, as long as LSU has more points/runs than them I'm happy.
And to the ULL fans who have a problem with other people making a big deal out of it, why don't you get mad at the people FROM ULL making a big deal out of it to ESPN and whoever else? That's causing the problem to be larger than it should be. It's causing people to spend hours talking about this, instead of the ULL victory of Arkansas St. last night. That was my point.

That would actually be funny or clever if LSU wasn't licensed to be called as such.

The purpose of calling themselves Louisiana is for marketing publications and other promotional items.
Schools all over the country change what they want to be called.
Examples in the MVC are UNI they wanted to be called Northern Iowa for years then all of a sudden switched to UNI. SMS (now Missouri State) used to send out on its press notes IT IS SMS not SMSU not SWMSU SWMO SWMOSU. I went to grad school and worked with Maron and Farmer when they started the push. It is a branding issue, its not trying to be something they are not. People know they are not Louisville (which goes by U of L).
People that argue over this are silly and uninformed. They arent changing the name of the school, they are changing the brand that the school goes by. Just like if LSU decided to be called Louisiana State instead of LSU.
