The only people that get annoyed with it are lsu fans that are insecure like it takes away from lsu. Same people think that lsu students are only dirty mouth kids and actually think that lsu is a laughing stock.
Those people have never been outof la ezexcept for sec sport and have 0 perspective on

Has ULM ever sent a press release calling ESPN, "ES-Bristol3.com?

Didn't think so.

I'm actually glad ULM is doing that, the more confusion they cause, the more likely someone decides to do something about it.

ULL just has an arrogance about it. Also, it's pretty clear why they won't use ULL, if they decide to stick with UL-Lafayette, they know that announcers are going to look for a way to shorten it, and so they specifically don't brand as ULL, for that reason.

I still haven't heard anyone articulate why "UL" is such a bad thing.

Because its not their name. The University of Louisiana system is comprised of the following schools

If we have to call ourselves ULL why doesn't LSU go by it's real name LSU A&M?

The only people that care what we call ourselves are insecure about there own team.

If you hate seeing us called UL then stop watching our games

They should just become the University of Lafayette, go by UL and be done with it.

Or they can be the University of Louisiana and ULM can be Louisiana University.

This is not about a nickname, like Ole Miss or Mizzou. This is about exploiting a loophole and creating a misleading title that makes the audience assume that they are THE University of Louisiana.

This is like Stony Brook demanding to be called The University of New York City.

Not exactly. While I think it is a bit much, I get their argument. For example, there are multiple Universities of Tenn.- (insert city), North Carolina - (insert city), Texas - (insert city), Wisconsin - (insert city), etc. However, when we think of the "Universtiy of Texas" everyone just presumes that you refering to the campus in Austin. The same is said about UNC (Chapel Hill); Wisconsin (Madison) and Tenn. (Knoxville).

Until recently, there has been no "University of Louisiana". ULL is just trying to position themselves as being thought of as the University of Louisiana, or simply just "Louisiana" ala Ohio University which is located in a state where the most prominent school, like in Louisiana, is the "State" University. They're just trying to distance themselves from being thought of as a "directional school", which outside of a few examples (most notably UCLA) is generally looked upon as being an inferior school/athletic program.

The outrage might be silly, but I can understand their logic in pressing to be called "Louisiana"

All of those schools have satellite campuses that do go by geographical designations.

they are also all flagship schools of their respective state.

so their using that logic is flawed, they have no satellite campuses, and they aren't a flagship institution.

The main problem with all of this is that there are too many 4 year colleges in louisiana. too late to go back now. and too late for ull to lay claim to louisiana.

The problem with that logic is that they ARE a directional/commuter school.

The comparisons to Ohio University are often made on this site, which is ridiculous. According to wiki, Ohio University was founded in 1804 and was the first university established in Ohio, making it the first university in the whole Northwest Territory, and the ninth oldest public university in the United States.

I wonder if UCLA people ever get this upset about their moniker.

The name looks great on our T-shirts when we take over New Orleans for our bowl game. The bowl game that we enjoy immensely, instead of spending the bowl season bitching about spending millions on a coach that doesn't provide perfection.

okay? so your fan base has been conditioned to accept it's mediocrity. that's a good thing. still, your bowl games, nor how much you pay your coach, has anything to do with the name of your school.

and if you weren't perennial in a bowl game, do you not think your fanbase would be upset if it missed out a few too many years??

Don't complain about another team's fan base when you're more of a fan of LSU than your own school.

I agree. But do you really think the rest of the country would go to such lenghts to determine whether the the "University of Louisiana" is actually a directional school or not. This push isn't to convince the people of Louisiana to think of ULL as THE unversity, it's to put in in the heads of folks outside the state who have no idea where Lafayette, LA is or that ULL is really just a directional school, that when you see "Louisiana" on a broadcast you just automatically think of them in the same light as "Texas" or "Wisconsin", etc. ULL is never going to be bigger than LSU. Same for Ohio University when compared to OSU. It's just a way for ULL to try to position themselves in a previously empty spot. Until recently, there wasn't a University of Louisiana, so you never saw ballgames with "Louisiana v. Florida St." or "Louisiana v. Oklahoma", etc. Why not try to fill that spot and market yourself as a "bigger" or more prominent university, even though we here in Louisiana know it will always be just a directional school.
