The higher ups never think about the people involved when making decisions. They don't care. They will never care.
This video is just sad. The one guy asking what he is supposed to tell his 3 year old was tough.

The AAC has already said it was going to try and hang with the big boys, but I see the others forming their own division with a pullup of some of the higher FCS schools. So by 2020 there will probably be:
P6 (P5+AAC or 4 mega conferences)
mid level division
FCS
The AAC isn't powerful enough to be lumped in with the power conferences.
P4/P5 (what does the Big XII do?)
AAC-MW hybrid (may be two leagues, however)
"Mid level division"
FCS
You are too optimistic about the AAC.

What about the people who manage the budget? Are they being fired?

Does these kids at least get to finish their education on scholarship or are they just up a creek?
I assume they can transfer with no penalties.

Can someone give me the cliff notes on why this is happening I haven't been following this? Thanks

Hey... they do have the best team in the State of Tennessee as a member... better than the two SEC East teams that are in Tennessee.
Unfortunately, their basketball team apparently is going to really suck this year.

UAB outgained Mississippi State, Dan Mullen called Nick Saban and whined to him, and Nick had them pull the plug on the entire program.

If I was on a bowl committee I would give them a bid just on general principles.

They'd probably decline it. After all, it's too much money for UAT to give up for its little brother.

God, I feel so bad for them. They were finally bowl eligible and now they find out they'll never play again.
Their undergraduate players can transfer without sitting out a year. Miles would be wise to go after their best linemen on both sides.

Imagine how good UF and FSU would become if they shut down UCF and USF

Paying players is going to have a devestating cost to CUSA, MAC, SUNBELT, AAC and MWC programs.
This is a good thing. Way too many MAC, C-USA, and Sunbelt schools spend millions of dollars on football programs that don't break even.

I have mixed feelings about this.
I definitely empathize with the players and it sucks for them. I also think it's pretty crappy how the UA Board of Trustees treated UAB.
But most of these athletic departments are in the red and subsidized by taxpayers. If UAB was topping out at 20,000 attendance at Legion Field, there obviously wasn't much fan support apart from a small die-hard group of people. The fans who are upset are getting their voices magnified in the media because nobody else cares.
I'm not going to get upset about every football program in Louisiana that's subsidized by taxpayers, but would I be heartbroken if suddenly McNeese or Nicholls or Southeastern lost their program? No.

Oh my, that's really hard to watch. I had to quit half way. That sucks

On the latter, you are correct, if a player wants to transfer (in order to continue playing football) then they will be immediately eligible.
On the former, I read that UAB was going to honor all scholarships. It may be that the NCAA requires a school to do so.

Scholarships are only a year at a time so a school doesn't have to. They generally do as good faith type of deal.
