Tulane should go look at SMU's new stadium...it isn't that big, but it looks nice

I agree. That could be a great model. Tulane will find room on campus for this project.

A lot of people forget that the old Tulane Stadium used to sell out every game

BS... not after they left the SEC..... place was a dead zone EXCEPT when they played LSU after that....

GO look at pics from the last few seasons.. if fact MANY thought moving to dome would "save" tulane football

Klaus I completely agree, i think this will boost our program a lot. The fan base will expand, as well as more local high school recruits coming to games while in high school to see games and maybe influence where they want to go.
From what I hear the current Tulane staff prefer out of state recruits?

odd that in a matter of a couple months the talk has gone from dropping to D3 because of finances to building their own stadium?

I hope they do, but looking at a satellite map, I don't see where they can put it.

I'd love to see ya'll build an on campus stadium. When I was in Louisiana I went to a Tulane game at Tad Gormely and had a blast, tailgating all over the place, lot of fun people, it also got rather packed (for a Tulane game). However I think someone on here told me that CUSA was up in arms because the stadium is a dump.

Why does LSU fans feel they have to piss on everything that happens to other schools?

I'm a lifelong LSU fan and I have to admit there's a segment of the fanbase that's very insecure and receive their own fragile self-worth from LSU athletics (most of them never attended a class there )

That said, as an LSU fan, I have to say I think it's a great idea for Tulane. The Superdome was a horrible idea from the start.

As others have said, I don't see how there would be enough room in that area. If the entire neighborhood bordered by Claiborne, State, Willow, and Ben Weiner were to be bought and rezoned, then that could make for a very successful mixed commercial, residential, and stadium area with adequate parking structures to serve the two stadiums and the commercial properties, but that's a financial improbability to put it lightly.

If Tulane is able to get a stadium built close to that size, it would be pipe-dream nice if they could have the playing surface area be large enough for a FIFA regulation soccer pitch. I'd love to see the USMNT play a game in New Orleans.

tulane building a 25-35 thousand seat on campus football stadium

SMU did it, hired June Jones and got a bowl win this season. Sounds like a good move.

Great place for big high school games too.

One of the nicest on campus stadiums in the country:

I've touted SMU's stadium on YOGWF in the past. Maybe someone's been listening, who knows?

Bestill my heart, CTF!!!!

I've "hated" Tulane my whole life.

This is something that's been needed for a long time. Mr. Dave Dixon wrote in his recent book that part of the thinking behind the Superdome was to help Tulane recruiting. He sold Tulane on it 45+ years ago by saying "what student-athlete wouldn't want to play in such an impressive professional (NFL) venue." He still clings to that belief today.

I think the man's a visionary, even now in his 80s. But he's wrong on maintaining this view. Tulane University needs this. I pray this isn't just a troll/lure by Mackel to get sports fans riled up.

My Dad works for Tulane, in the president's office to be exact. I asked him to ask Scott and get to the bottom of this rumor once and for all.

When I find out, i will let y'all know asap. But my dad just told me there's a 99% chance that it's BS rumors. That being said, i hope hes wrong.

ETA: After thinking about it i figured out where they are going to put it, they are probably going to tear down the practice field/track and rebuild it there.

My Vision of how they will do it... and yes i use paint

I can't imagine the rumor being true right now. Cowen doesn't care for athletics at all.

That being said, Tulane sent a group out to SMU's stadium just after it opened a few years ago. Plus, they visit every 2 years for a game.

Building an on campus stadium would be the best thing that's happenned to Tulane football in YEARS.

If the rumors are true, then the stadium would be an extremely tight fit. Although they could always purchase some of the property adjacent to campus on the east side along S. Claiborne.

i think the only way a stadium could fit is if they were to tear down the wilson center and tennis courts and rotate the field 90 degrees to an east-west configuration. then you would have the area of trailers, both practice fields and the two mentioned above. you could rebuild coaches offices and locer rooms into the stadium. tulane could also relocate the tennis and track facilities to that shopping mall on river road that they bought (it would be leveled). this is the only feasible way in my eyes....

which leads me to my next point: this would be a ton of money and seems highly unlikely. the wilson center was built in 1989 according to the website, and its still pretty new looking on the interior. i doubt tulane jumps through all these hoops.

on top of everything mentioned above, parking would be a huge bitch as others have mentioned. you cant buy houses on the audobon place side of campus because they are all multi million dollar homes; and audobon and loyola also hem you in. this leaves a smaller area to try and buy and knock down houses but preservationist tree hugging shite heads would come out of the woodworks and make it a living hell and near impossible to do.
