Apparently Tangerine has no emotion or social skills.

Wonder how he got a collapsed lung out of that hit.
I understand the neck injury from the hit on the crown of the helmet

Vertebrae invades windpipe. Stuff gets in that shouldn't and stuff that should get out doesn't.

He didn't.

Most likely misreporting d/t a high spinal injury requiring emergency intubation/tracheostomy. A collapsed lung could occur secondary to CPR, malpositioned breathing tube, or the emergent trach though. But this sounds like a mid-high cervical spine injury, C3-5, high enough to affect breathing.

Just a horrible situation folks.

This is probably what happened. Sad situation but we won't know his neurological status for about 48 hours (as far as complete spinal cord injury etc). He will probably be artificially ventilated for a while

I am glad I escaped football without any permanent injury. I feel really bad for this guy, his family, and his team.

You nearly hit the nail on the head--with the exception of trach'ing him likely meaning his airway was mechanically compromised (not just neurologically compromised) by the bony spinal column injury.

Like others have said, we'll know more in 48 hours. Very sad situation.

Let's hope it has more to do with inability to place an ETT under those circumstances while keeping the head/neck neutrally fixed.
