And treat ALL players equally, especially in this dual threat QB era, as just running backs and regular football players instead of 1 protected class?

QBs would be more cautious, defenses would change.

We'd get back to better pocket passing play.

Make the game more enjoyable.

QB slides should have been eliminated after that bullshite Kenny Pickett play against Wake Forest a few years ago. It's their own damn fault. If the QBs want to push the rules like this, then their protection should be removed.

Is the slide rule limited to QB's?

I checked, it's not.

So one guy in college even not the NFL does something and it’s all QBs fault? that's really simple to fix, a fake slide is a penalty loss of 10 yards from the spot of the fake, there that problem is solved. I see no reason to eliminate the normal slide just because some head hunting idiot, with a history of cheap shots doesn’t follow the rules. He hit Lawrence with his forearm that’s not a case of a guy that “couldn’t stop fwd momentum”.

It’s really not that hard for defenders to put their hands up before contact. Dude saw Trevor pull up and lean back early, and still went for the kill shot. That was dirty AF.

Keep it for the cerebral QBs like Cousins and Stafford but eliminate it for the athletes like Lamar and Jayden.

haven't read too much about this but it appears that it wasn't that hard of a hit...

Mahomes did a fake step out of bounds recently to the defender pulled up and he stayed in and got more yards. If that defender hits him, guaranteed 15 yarder.

Pickett was the first one I remember doing it, and I knew it was going to become a problem if it didn't get nipped in the bud right then and there. NFL QBs have started taking advantage of this too.

Yes, it's time. The slide is complete bullshite, it pretty much only brings the head into play on an aggressive play.

They need to remove the judgement call portion of “he’s down when he begins the slide”. I think that would clear a lot of problems up.

Similar to the catch rule a few years ago being changed to you have to get your feet down even if a defender you is pushing you out of bounds.

Hope you enjoy watching Ian Book vs Nathan Peterman… by week 10 you’d lose pretty much every starter in the league

The NCAA banned the fake slide the week Pickett did it

Whit Weeks almost got called for targeting and tossed (and by rule, should have been) after hitting Jaxon Dart in the head because Dart started sliding at the same time that Weeks initiated his tackle.

This isn’t just about what happened to Lawrence. This is about ball carriers having the ability to put on a magical cloak of untouchability in the middle of the field of play at any given time and expecting defenders to react in ways that may not be possible.

Let them slide, but the ball goes back 2-3 yards from the start.

They always seem to grant a first down even through they start slide behind marker.

Any player can slide and is protected. What the hell does that have to do with QBs?

So many of you have no idea what the rules actually are, do you?

The slide rule definitely needs to be revised. The Qb becomes a defenseless player but if they slide within a yard or 2 of the defenders(which is already committed) it’s nearly impossible for the defender to put on the brakes.

I would like to see a 3-yard+ barrier for the slide, otherwise the qb is free game.

Slide should be banned or the runner remains fair game, slide or not. To people saying QB's wouldn't make it through a season, go back and watch the old NFL. QBs made it through a season all the time. They also got beat up all the time and didn't cry about it, and the backup QB position became hugely important.

So many people go after the defense, but never the offense, just like with targeting, even though it's usually the offensive player putting his head down.

Alternatively, if you fake slide, like Mahomes here, you get penalized 15 yards, loss of down.
