Highly rated QBs are getting out of town if they aren't starting by year 2.

It’s their own faults for seeing the depth chart and still choosing programs that are stacked at the position.

It's shortsighted and probably puts their development behind not to mention learning new systems. Sure, some may succeed but IMO most are hurting themselves in the long run. It's just immaturity but hey, now money is being thrown at immature people.

I've seen comments from a few recruits that NIL is shortsighted and the long game is NFL money but that's another discussion.

Because it is. You may be getting "NIL" money to go to a particular school, but if you don't have a path to early playing time you're reducing your exposure to get a good draft position.

Why go to school A) With 3 sophomores in front of you, instead of going to school B) with 2 juniors?

Like Burrow did, right?

You think LSU was stacked at qb when Burrow came?

Burrow was in line to start once JT was gone until he got injured and a younger guy passed him up, no? Haskins came the following year after him.

Dabo’s first transfer portal grab was this week and it is a former 5 star QB that transferred from Clemson in 2018 to Northwestern (Hunter Johnson). Started this year but lost his job during the season. Will probably be 3rd string.

Why is this a bad thing though? Do we prefer times in which Bama had Tua, Jalen, and Mac Jones on the same roster? Call me crazy, but it was good for CFB in 2018 when Dwayne Haskins was a Heisman finalist and Joe Burrow was getting experience towards his magical 2019 season.

It’s good in moderation. 68% is simply immature impatience.

You misread what I replied to, or maybe I did. I understood the guy to imply these kids go to a school they can't win the job atthen transfer as though they should have known better. So I meant Burrow at Ohio State. And it was a bit of hyperbole.

These guys go thinking they can win the job. Sometimes a new guy comes in who is better, sometime a guy stays longer than expected. Point being, things change for all sorts of reasons.

I was being a bit hyperbolic. As to your question, I think so, and that highlights what I'm trying to say. You never know how a coach will go in a year or two,

Red shirting for the sake of saving a year is not worth it these days.

That's why you need former walk-ons who want to lead your program to victory.

We were anything but stacked. Now if you’re nussmeir or even Howard, I could maybe see that argument.

The better question is like the ewers(sp?) kid that left the state of Texas to go to tOSU and is now back at UTw

People keep bitching about the lack of parity in college football. Isn't the portal the best way to increase parity? Schools won't be able to stockpile talent like they used to. And bad teams will be able improve and rebuild much more quickly. I'm not sure why some think this is a bad thing.

Burrow may not have been in line to start, and so it was either he starts or leaves. I don't blame anyone in that situation. In the 2 years following Haskins threw for 50 TDs and Fields threw for like 40, Burrow adjusted in 2018 and then had the best season for a QB probably ever in 2019. Both teams are always loaded at WR/RB or good enough to where if you have a QB they will catch the balls.

Burrow was also not a highly rated 4* guy who came into college ready to go/expecting to start immediately. He said he learned from Barrett how to lead a team, which he obviously has carried with him to Pro-Bowl level heights early in his NFL career
