How is Harry Vardon not on everyone's list? He should be top 5

I was just thinking how big of a win this was for Phil as far as his legacy goes. Jack and tiger are in their own group but Phil is now in the next group. Well probably the group after that but still. He's up with Watson, player, etc now.

Congrats; you'd come in 2nd place. It's not the worst place to be.

completely agree...prime Tiger was the best we've ever seen in any sport

The fact that people on this board try to refute this point is absurd. It is one thing to say that Jack is the GOAT, but it is quite another to say that Jack in his prime was better than Tiger. That is simply not true.

For the record, I believe Jack is still the GOAT and Tiger has a chance to pass him in time, but Tiger in his prime was unstoppable.

On a slightly different topic, where does Westwood fall as the top golfer to never win a major now?

So the guy that is #2 in Major Wins, and #2 in All-time wins is 6th on your list?

You need to do some studying.

BR article but good read

Pretty interesting take on "best golfer". Article is 2 years old.

I personally think Tigers prime was so dominant if he continues his non major winning ways and adds 1 or 2 more majors to his tally then we can make a case for Tiger at 1. Nicklaus stays the standard until then imo.

Hated leaving Seve out but I do think Phil passed him with the win today.

I've heard a lot of talk similar to this today, which is pretty cool just because I link Phil and Seve so closely in my mind. very similar players in that both were guys who got themselves into trouble all the time looking for the perfect shot. Probably the two most entertaining players ever. Not the best, but the most creative. I'd hate to rank them separately.

I'm not as up on golf history as a lot of you, so I'll ask.... Vardon. Explain why he is so high on the lists (I can see he was great, but he seems lower top 10 or just off the list... I'm sure I'm missing something, so educate me).

Snead is arguably #1

I'll never forget a comment made by an old man who joined me when we were both caught behind a foursome.

He told me about being in the gallery when Snead was in his prime. Snead was playing a 580 yard par 5. He reached the green on his second shot. And that's playing with old persimmon wooden clubs.
