re: Tom Brady puzzled why Scottie Scheffler would prioritize family over golf career

It’s weird that anyone (Brady/Bayless/etc) is trying to shoehorn this as a negative for Scottie as far as his competitiveness.
It’d be one thing if Scottie was giving these types of quotes in the middle of a slump and a mediocre season, but he gave these thoughts and then went out and played the best tournament of his career and wiped the floor with every other top player in the world. Why would you judge how he handles himself mentally when he’s the most mentally dominant golfer since Tiger?
It’d be way different if someone like Rahm gave these quotes, or Rory before he won the masters. It would come off as sort of capitulating and sort of an excuse.
But Scottie giving these quotes while continually stepping on dudes’ throats is fascinating.

Another reason Brady will never be the GOAT in my eyes.

Plus, Brady wasn't married to a normal woman.
You're right. She wasn't trapped and forced to stay w/a lying jackass who clearly loved his career more than his family. She was able to tell him to frick off unlike many other people who are trapped w/shite husbands and wives who only care about the family when they can be used to further their image at work.

“Sure, they’re different blocks on the pyramid, but they’re part of the same pyramid. They’re connected!
For Scottie, the “being a great father/husband block is at the top of the pyramid. The “being great at golf” block is further down. For Tom, the “being great at football” block was at the top. Scottie prioritizes his family over his profession. Tom prioritized his profession over everything.

So would you think he should advise Shef to stay if she cheats? Not sure of your position.

quote:Did that make it OK for Gisele to cheat on Tom? He said he wanted to play until he was 45. She couldn't wait one more year? Again, most people don't get to retire until they're in their 60s or 70s. Also, why don't we hear the same complaint from every NFL wife or NBA wife or MLB wife about their absent husbands and fathers? The idea that they're all bad husbands and dads is crazy. And why aren't they being given the same ultimatum--it's me or your job? They all have millions, they could all retire comfortably right now.
You dont think that was her clearly saying he isnt spending as much time with his kids as they need? Or her?
quote:Watch Man in the Arena. The Brady home was in New England, he went back home to his family every day after practice and every Sunday after home games. I'm sure it was the same in Tampa Bay. His kids love him. There's only 8 weeks of away games per season. The kids traveled with him for a lot of those games, especially the holiday ones. Then he spends every offseason with his kids traveling the world.
You're right, most kids spend just about every day with their parents.
I think Tom's a great dad and everything was going fine until Gisele cheated on him. I think her demand for him to retire was impatient and unreasonable, and definitely not a justifiable reason to break their wedding vows and break up their whole family. He was going to be done in another year. It sounds like most people here think it was Tom's fault for continuing to play. Fair enough, to each their own.

That's pretty rich considering we are talking about Tom Brady lmao.

quote:I mean for me that's part of it. He was eating avocado everything to extend his career and she knew that. It was her choice to turn it into an ultimatum for him. Why couldn't she just be cool and chill knowing that he was going to be done in a year? Did Cal Ripken's wife tell him to retire or else and then cheat on him when he decided to play another season?
That's pretty rich considering we are talking about Tom Brady lmao.

If you watch that Golf show on Netflix, it talks about his rise. His current caddie did not want to work with him if he could not balance himself. he was so into golf he got down on himself way too much. When he started caring a little less about golf, he was mentally able to handle the ups and downs of golf. That statement was the key to his success, not the opposite. TB is just an arrogant dude that believe his way is the only way.

Tom dropped his 3 month's pregnant fiancé for Giselle.

For instance, I think part of being a great father is being a great example of doing what it takes to take care of your family. I chose to do it by playing football.
This is one of the dumbest statements Tom Brady has ever made and shows how out of touch he is. He would only have a point if Scheffler needed to work to keep food on the table and house over his family's head, but Scheffler can already provide that for life.

You think the people that are the best in their respective sports stay hungry because of money?
Tom is out of touch here. If he believes that your duty as a father is to show your kids first and foremost that your job is the most important thing in your life, then so be it.
For most God fearing people, the job of a father is to show that God and their family come first. Scottie is not hurting and is no worse of a golfer because he takes this approach. It would be different if Tom made this statement about Wyndam Clark or some shite.
