And?

WCF was a great accomplishment and showed the level that HOU could reach when they play their best ball...but the seasons goal was not met bc it didn't end in a title. Whether you make it to WCF or lose in the first round or not even make the playoffs if the goal is a title and you don't win one then the goal was not met and ultimately doesn't matter what round you lost in.

Sure seems to matter when you talk about SA losing in round 1 last year.

But San Antonio has shown many times they've won it all, yet them losing round 1 for the 3rd time in like 19 years... That's not enough proof though.

wrong.

the GM and the operations VP are going to be thrilled if you get to the conference finals. You will be selling tickets, popcorn and uniforms.
And the fans will fill the place and buy season tickets.
Compared to if you do not make the playoffs, and you are perceived as non-compete.
Isiah and the Pistons were finalists to Larry Bird. That was a very good Detroit team. I think they were bounced by the C's twice in a row.
Lost on a steal on the inbounds.
Dekembke ,Mookie and Ehlo and Dominque Wilkins lost to MJ on one shot.

You think the fans of those teams that lost on one play to an all time great would trade that for a team that didn't make the playoffs?
Ha!

So what does getting bounced in the 1st round twice in the last 3 years show?

Seems like that is more of the norm and last season was the anomaly.

I am not the GM or VP. I wasn't speaking from a management perspective so all of that selling tickets stuff means nothing.

Yeah, as an emotional fan, sometimes I feel like Boom (if you can't win, who the frick cares?). But, first round knockouts versus conference finals are sometimes what determine whether you break up a team. LAC and Hou may have taken drastic measures before the season if they didn't at least win a round.

Losing to Golden State doesnt prove much of anything bc every team will not only lose to them, but get destroyed by them. It doesn't matter at the end of the day if it was in the first round or second round.

The other time, NBD it was a great series you tip your hat to Dame and the Blazers and move on.

Again this is from the management perspective. I am not in team management. As a fan of the team when the goal is a championship it doesn't matter what round you lose it. Sure it's fun to watch the team play more important games later into the season But when the goal is A, and you accomplish B or C, B and C are both failures.

That makes absolutely zero sense... Your lending credence to the lone successful season with Dwight, but tossing aside the other two.

Just a terrible attempt at rationalization.

I can think of four terrific teams that lost on the last play of the conference championship to a team with hall of famers making game winning plays on the final play.
3 examples you might have seen:
Chicago Bulls. Sloan and Chet Walker. Lost to Wilt, Jerry West and Baylor on two straight defensive plays. West steals from Van Lier in the open court to go ahead.
Wilt blocks Van Lier in the lane for the win.

Same for ATL and MJ.
Same for Isiah and Detroit and Larry.
That stuff is legendary.
And as a fan I loved it even though "my" teams lost two of the three.
I was rooting for ATL to get past MJ. I was rooting for Chicago vs Wilt, whom I resented for doing what LeBron did and joining West and Baylor for a ring.
Still great series. Wonderful games.

edited to remove nasty personal comment. Peace.

HOU had a great run last season, the game 6 comeback v LAC was one of my Top 5 sports moments. It was a great season that I enjoyed immensely. But a title wasn't won so the ultimate goal wasn't met. It doesn't take away from my enjoyment of watching the games while they are on TV and I'm watching them. I like watching whether CC wins or loses. Just when looking at the season as a whole after it is all said and done, the goal wasn't met.

When Boom enters a thread it just turns into a handicap match and he has no backup. Usually turns ugly for him.
