Sounds like you and your buddies don't know the rules of golf.

Either: 2 club lengths, stroke and distance or line between ball and hole back as far as he wants to go.
Nearest point of relief is inconsequential.

I don't care where guys drop from or if they retee or not if you are just out there playing for funzies. but usually when I play I'm playing in a match of some sort whether individual or partner match and we play it by the rules of golf. you must take medicine like a man.

this, too many golfers don't know the difference. Hitting shots off the cart path when your a 20 handicapper and half way through a 12 pack is ridiculous. Playing the ball down at a muni course when your a 30 handicap is ridiculous. But if you are a legit golfer and want to play a semi competitive game then you need to know the rules.

This is so B.S. People are crazy to keep holding Tiger to different standards than the other golfers. Know why we don't hear about this crap with other golfers? It's not because they don't do it. It's because no one cares.

Yeah I wasn't referring to tiger's situation really. I don't know if the other poster was. I'm sure Tiger knows the rules off golf better than anyone on tour because he's the only one that will get called out for bullshite.

But I bet he is a lot more aware of when a possible rules infraction is at hand.

I see your point, I just don't agree with it.

Hey smart guy he passed on stroke and distance, two club lengths gave him a shot inside the pampas or on the cart path...line no closer between spot and hole would have left him OB...we know the rules but thanks

If your nearest point of relief from an unplayable lie is a cart path, can't you take relief from the path after taking the unplayable drop?

Well glad you know the rules, now learn the terminology. Nearest point of relief is inaccurate.

sure you can BUT you nearest point of relief from that cart path could be back in the unplayable lie that you are taking a drop from

Good point. Although, my drop technique would ensure that my ball bounced towards the other side of said cart path.

I've never seen a cart path wider than 2 club lengths.

We are getting way to technical now, but I was referring to the first drop from the unplayable lie

Bingo... dude was just screwed all around. I would not have banged one of my clubs on a cart path over a first round match play game on the 4th hole...I was 118 yards out in the middle of the fairway and ended up birding the hole anyway but ole boy (a fellow LSU tiger, btw) stepped up and took his least favorite club out the bag and ran one up close to the green and made 5.
