Yeah I see what you're saying. I just looked closer at 97. Look what he does with his right leg. He relies on an ungodly amount of power from his knees and hips. They explode in tandem with his arms on the downswing. It is a much less sustainable swing than 2000-present. The 2000 swing is so smooth it's hard to really point anything specific out about it. His chest had gotten alot stronger and it wasn't just moving like a reaction to the rest of his body like in 97. His whole body was able to keep up if that makes sense. He looked so natural swinging the club back then. Not that his swing now is shabby.

I also think the 2013 swing looks a little funky, but I think it's because he's trying to create a high, super spinning shot here. The fact that he's hitting into 18 at Augusta lends credence to this.
Watching Tiger now I'm amazed at the sheer variety of swings he uses on a daily basis. He's gotten comfortable hitting draws and fades, high balls and low balls, swinging hard or easy, or any combination of the above.

I love his 97 swing the best

Yeah on second glance it looks like he is hitting a lofted club there. His swing nowadays is definitely different. That lunging thing he does is something they teach not to do on on your first day at the range. Definitely not quite textbook. But he's always been about evolving his game to keep his edge.

what is this lunging you speak of? The 2013 swing? If you think that is a lunge, you should see some of the swings I see on a daily basis!

I would say it's more of a squat at the start of the downswing to create potential energy and then a release of it than a lunge. When I think of someone lunging at the ball their whole body, including their head, is moving toward the ball. That's obviously not correct, but what Tiger does is considered normal in the modern swing. Rory McIlroy is probably the most obvious example of this move

he's really close to the ball at address now

2000 is definitely the best

He's really slumped over in 2004
its tiring carrying all that roid muscle all the time.

My #2. I love his leg movement in 1997.
That is probably what cost him several seasons to injury though.
Although for the average golfer immulating his swing would be advisable.....no one in the world can generate the torque and stress on their knees that he does on his I wouldn't imagine.

The 2013 swing looks like it would result in the most bad shots as it looks the least fluid. Several of the motions appear almost exaggerated. How much have his prior injuries limited his range of motion?

I've never liked his new swing. It looks like shite, but he is making it work.
2000 is the best for sure.

Look how violent 1997 is. He comes down so hard from the top. No wonder his knee was messed up.

So hey, going to let me borrow that now?
