It’s pretty much a fact not an opinion.

I have to disagree here. The city skyline was lit up in blue/red and they are saying 300k showed for the parade today. North Texas loves the Rangers.

You legit watched almost all of it. I saw you in the game threads. I will say I was dead wrong about viewership being down for this.

This is true, but it was still very boring and had almost no gravitas for a World Series. It reminded me of the Colts / Bears Super Bowl. Very blah.

The second game a day later, which drew significantly less viewers at 8.15 million, was the least-watched World Series game ever—until game 3.

The third game in the series, which marked the first time the World Series and NFL were both on network TV on a Monday night since 1996, averaged 8.13 million on Fox, according to the Associated Press—ratings for game 4 on Tuesday haven’t been released.

The competing football game, the Raiders against the Lions, was watched by 15.2 million people total across cable and broadcast networks, according to ESPN, with 8.36 million of those watching on ABC alone.

The solution to the problem of bad teams like Texas and Arizona making the World Series is to reduce the number of teams in the playoffs. Winning a division of 6-7-8 teams should mean you make the playoffs.

If MLB added two teams and went to four divisions of 8 teams you would have playoffs that people want to watch. What made the World Series so interesting is that only 2 pre-expansion and 4 teams made the playoffs. The Wild Card and Divisional series are shite.

I remember as a kid in elementary school, teachers would bring in a TV to watch the World Series.

Dodgers, Tigers, Cardinals. Afternoon games.

I remember working first year out of college the Red Sox and Yankees afternoon game. I think it was 1978.

Anyway, MLB get back to it so kids can watch. Like I did.

I remember someone complaining here 5 years ago when it was Dodgers/Red Sox. It's impossible to please everyone.

I watched every game. I enjoyed someone than the same old teams. It wasn't like there was anything better on. I didn't give a shite about some MNF with the sorry arse Raiders or sleep inducing NBA.

As noted, it’s one year but comes at a time when ESPN and MLB have a mutual opt-out at the end of the 2025 season for their national broadcast deal, which includes the Wild Card series. Overall, ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball was down -2% on the season, but speaking with Phil Orllins, Vice President, Production for MLB, he said that was largely due to having a slate with the Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets in a down year for both. He said those clubs accounted for 25 of 30 broadcast windows and therefore, he was bullish on the season. “To be basically flat under those circumstances is, I think, a really good sign about the overall health and interest in [Major League Baseball].”

On the regional sports network side, it was impossible to not have the Diamond Sports Group bankruptcy not hang over the league. MLB took over the rights to the Padres and Diamondbacks mid-season from DSG, and with them controlling the majority of MLB regional sports networks, it should not be surprising if the league took over the majority of them as either DSG foregoes making rights payments, or contracts expire, opening the door for MLB to produce and work carriage deals for them. In aggregate, the RSNs were up +7% during the 2023 regular season (see numbers for all 29 U.S. teams here), with most of them ranking #1 in primetime. That’s important given other non-sports content in the DVR era has seen drop dramatically in viewership over the last few years.

It was the first WS I watched through its entirety in forever. The two best teams were in it because they each beat the best teams to get there.

I find MLB boring when the Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers, Astros are in the WS. Plus, those fan bases are annoying and/or are bandwagon fans.

I’m a Cardinals fan but due to close proximity, the Rangers being in the WS was a huge deal, plus winning it. Many in this region grew up going to Rangers games. There was very big interest throughout here.
