discussion on this board as they would have had in 2010?
grown adults have less interest in a kid's game than they did 15 years ago as they grow older? Some of you don't realize you're middle aged (or older) and view sports differently than you did when you were a college kid.

They're not that bad, jeez.

Minn vs. New Mexico was entertaining. Wouldn't have seeked it out, but had it on in the background while doing stuff.

it's not so much the teams, it's the poor quality of play

Here we go again. Yes, some of these bowls are "shitty". Would anyone really watch UTSA vs FIU in a regular season matchup? No, because it would be on ESPN+. Again, back in "the good old days" did the, say, 1988 Liberty Bowl between 7-3-1 Indiana and 8-3 South Carolina really matter that much.? Was it more meaningful than bowls now? Or how about the 1992 Hall of Fame Bowl between 8-3 Tennessee and 8-2-1 Boston College? The 1985 Cotton Bowl between 9-2 A&M and 8-3 Auburn? The 1997 Fiesta Bowl between 10-1 Kansas State and 9-3 Syracuse? These lower tier bowls between G6 teams usually suck. Back in the day there was only one lower tier bowl(California from 1981-91 and then the Vegas from 1992-96) and it featured the MAC vs PCAA later the Big West champions. There weren't 6 MAC teams in bowls back then. That all changed in the late 90's when ESPN got involved. Most bowls have never mattered. I wish people would quit bitching about it, and either watch the damn games if you like or if you don't like don't watch. So tired of hearing this shite every year like bowls used to matter. They've always been glorified exhibition games.

ETA: NYD was pretty cool back in the late 70's through the early 90's before the Bowl Coalition, Bowl Alliance, BCS, or CFB Playoff, but even then only a game or two really mattered.

Background noise, generally on silent, for the holiday season. Nothing else on.

Who doesn't want to see football royalty like Owen McCown, son of Minnesota Vikings QB Coach Josh McCown, a former SMU QB, and nephew of former LaTech QB Luke McCown. Arch Who?

ETA: The McCown kid plays for Jeff Traylor, the old Gilmer coach. He'll be a Power 4 coach before long. Offensive genius! Replays of Gilmer games on YouTube

quote:

A four-time Texas High School Coach of the Year, he posted a 175-26 record (.871) and led Gilmer to five state championship game appearances, three state titles (2004, ’09, ’14) and 12 district crowns. The Buckeyes turned in a pair of perfect 16-0 seasons, won 10-or-more games 11 times and registered seven 13-win seasons and three 15-win campaigns during his career.

In 2014, his Class 4A Division II state championship team boasted one of the most prolific offenses in Texas prep history. Gilmer scored 950 points, the second-most at that time in state history, averaging 59.4 points and 536.1 yards over the 16-game season. The Buckeyes topped 60 points nine times, including two 80-point performances. Gilmer also averaged 536.1 total yards per game (8,577 yards) behind a balanced 293.9 passing yards and 242.1 rushing yards per contest. The defense was equally dominant, allowing only 276 points (17.3) with five single-digit efforts and two shutouts, while recording 23 interceptions and forcing 17 fumbles. Gilmer closed out the season with a win over West Orange-Stark and had eight different players earn Class 4A All-State honors from either the AP or Texas Sports Writers Association.

Gilmer’s two other state titles under Traylor both came in Class 3A in 2004 (Division II) and 2009 (Division I), before the change in class structure in Texas high school football moved the school into Class 4A. After 15 years on its sidelines, Gilmer renamed Buckeye Stadium to Jeff Traylor Stadium to honor his successful career. Inducted into the East Texas Coaches Association Hall of Honor in 2019, Traylor received numerous honors during his prep coaching career, including being named Coach of the Decade (2000s) by the Tyler Morning Telegraph. He is a 12-time District Coach of the Year, four-time East Texas Coach of the Year and a four-time Ted Jeffries Award winner. He has received the Carl Padilla Coach of the Year, KYKX Coach of the Year and Old Coach Network Coach of the Year awards twice each. He was inducted into both the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) Hall of Honor and the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame in 2025.

I guess that’s adulthood. Now I have these games on all day every day when I’m off and I try to look up and watch the very end if they’re interesting. Ive got so many chores now as a homeowner.

If the teams want to be there, the games are good. If not, they aren’t.

That was Hawaii’s Super Bowl and it showed. Great game.

The bowl games lost some prestige when the BCS added a championship game in 2006. Instead of the Fiesta Bowl being the National Championship they had a normal Fiesta Bowl (Boise St vs Oklahoma) and then also a National Championship at the Fiesta Bowl (Florida vs Ohio State).

It then got substantially worse when the 4 team playoff started.

Now with a 12 team playoff the traditional BCS/New Year’s six bowl games are more prestigious than ever but the downside is all of the other bowl games are next to meaningless.

Doesn't help that Notre Dame ; Iowa State & K State declined offers.

Interesting thing here. My neices boyfriend is part of the ND Football support staff. He told me that every team has a CFP liaison and that ND was told that if Alabama and someone else (I forgot who), that ND would make the playoff.

Both those things happened and then they got left out. That’s why they’re mad. There was actually a team vote and the team voted to go home for Christmas.

This Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl feels like its SLU vs. Toledo and its Penn State/Clemson...

Announcers talking about everything BUT the game while still drinking their morning Coffee.

penn st is down to their 3rd qb, had a season of turmoil, under achieved, and Opie is struggling to even put a point up against them.

let's also add, they had players bolt to portal, and opie has his grossly overrated qb still playing.

Opie better be on the hot seat next season.

I'm a Football Junkie. All good here. Gives me a chance to check out 2 teams UTSA vs FIU i normally would not be watching on Saturday's during the regular season.

Oh no, I have to sit on my heated patio with a fire going with friends drinking bourbon and casually watching college football during a time when everyone is off work, how horrible!

It’s so annoying to have a game between Clemson and Penn State to glance at while I smoke a brisket, how could ESPN do this to me in a way I can completely ignore if I choose!
