WLB - steve edmond *****
To be fair...Whaley was a 4* RB, not DT, Cobbs was also an offensive player in HS and Hicks (our best LB) has been hurt since OM.
But enough of that p*ssy excuse sh*t. Half our DBs don't tackle at all...I blame the "thud" tempo we use in practice courtesy of Mack (don't even wrap up). Our LBs (besides Hicks) look totally lost and can't get off blocks - courtesy of Manny as LB coach. Our DEs (best two players) have apparently been taught to line up 3 yards outside of the OT and immediately rush upfield 5 yards every play, leaving off-tackle runs for easy gains between 8-95 yards. I could go on - it's mind boggling. Baylor and UT have the two worst defenses in the Big12 - it'll be like watching two mentally handicapped kids fight on Sat night (and that's an insult to mentally handicapped kids).
BTW, LSU at 11am so that the world can watch Texas/Baylor in prime time. WTF is that.

Yeah, Hicks is a hell of a player. Losing him hurts but it doesn't explain the other issues.
Of course my teams defense sucks arse this year as well so all I can offer is commiseration.

There's speculation he isn't going to be back this year and will redshirt (or medical redshirt or whatever). That hurts - there's no confidence that Manny can coach LBs the necessary technique and that the issue didn't raise itself last year because we had 2 SRs who were coached by Muschamp so they knew what they were doing.
I picked a bad season to stop sniffing glue.

#8 unable to disengage a WR is even worse than the two knuckleheads knocking themselves out of the play

tejas is the poster child for how the ranking services fail. the coaches do their own ranking and it appears that the tejas coaches suck at it as well as suck at coaching them. once one gets past the measurables, the ranking services are more of a popularity contest than anything else.

No the worst part is that's OU's Full Back...

A little bit is poor scheming but most of all its the shittiest team preparation (both offense & defense) you might find in the entire nation. Doesn't matter how many stars a group of players have when they have flat out quit on their Coaches. And in this case, I don't blame the players for one instance quitting on Mack. Lord knows that most of the Texas fanbase has after last Saturday.
So they lost a close game to WVU and they just decided to quit on the coaching staff going into the OU game?
That's your theory? Really?

I guess taking 25 commitments before they play their senior year of HS and then not developing them at Texas is not the way to stock talent
The analysts I have been following are all saying part of the teasips problems are badly evaluating HS kids and offering them way too early

this sounds much more likely to be the issue than it does players quitting.

I agree
Maybe they just aren't that good? Legit question
Is there a "BAMA bump" in the recruit rankings for Texas early commits too?
I don't think they quit, I think they are poorly coached and not as talented in the fall as they appear on NSD

No matte what you think, 5*'s and 4*'s pan out with more regularity than lesser recruited and rated players.

But its funny because that is the exact thing Mack Brown gets the most praise from. Texas fans even love it themselves when Mack gets 20 verbal commitments over a year before signing day.

I also think there is a bias for players rated from Texas. They come from more college like programs in high school and they are more developed than many other players across the nation, and then in college it surprises everyone when they don't get any better to the extent guys like Keke Mingo do who are raw physical talents that receive the training and coaching at the college level and live on their pure physical ability at the high school levels.
For these same reasons, Texas is able to produce lots of great QB's at the collegiate level because they are far more polished than QB's from other states, and physical ability is less of a priority than at other positions.

Doesn't matter how many "5*" kids you sign if you can't develop them, just ask Auburn.
Mack is a dead coach walking, has been ever since he lost in '09. Nobody wants to hear it but Saban processed his arse.
