Went to the same HS but a few years younger than Brad. IIRC the epitome of rich spoiled kid who then never made anything of himself beyond family money. He's had financial issues apparently. Also the rumor is he was paranoid about her leaving him. His older brother made a statement for the family that seemed to acknowledge his almost assured involvement with her disappearance.
I've been here a while, but mainly lurked. and no desire to be a mod!

Who was? (I honestly don't know...just giving credit to the dline coach).

I agree on the education v football thing...very hard to be the best at both. I'm certainly aware that D1 sports is a full time job.

There was a complaint filed in the U.S. Education Department’s Office of Civil Rights...not in any federal or state court. They know they won't win in a court of competent jurisdiction...

I'm excited about this game being (hopefully) a yearly rivalry in the future (I'm an old SWC guy however). The hate is real.

can't wait for the game on Saturday. I expect nothing less than absolute pandemonium from the Hog fans.

He's an absolute stud. Will be fun to watch on Saturday - nice to get this game back on.

Understatement of the year....

happy with the dline guys (thanks, Bo Davis). But we are struggling on oline right now.

That being said, it is looking more and more like the Texas sites really are shooting in the dark on the staff hires and nobody has an inside track on real info.

This seems absolutely correct.

I think Quinn will get an NFL job and stay there. There really hasn't been any buzz on Arnett for a week or so now. My guess is that it's Golding and just keeping all the leaks down until after the NCG.

How much more clear do I need to make it?????? Texas is NOT as good a program as you think they are....... great coach or not..........

How good do you think that I think it is?
quote:

You are missing the point..... What school is the flagship for the state of Texas???????

Maybe you need to make your point clearer...

Texas should never lose a recruit to..?

Only a Saban or Meyer can turn it around...?

There are structural issues in the school that prevent it from becoming what it could be...? (that's a larger discussion)

If you start the history of college football at 2010 (or 2007, whichever), yeah, you're right.
quote:

And who is THAT coach??????

No idea of knowing that.

I'd have to think about what TOP guys have gone to TCU, Tech, or Baylor recently.
quote:

While I agree with the “Right Coach” angle, Texas is rich with recruits at the HS level.... but the Texas program has suffered in recruiting...... I mean they have a great city and great facilities and everything that say a TCU doesn’t have yet they still lose recruits to them..... it’s not so much a coaching thing it’s a TEXAS thing......

We have 25ish schollies a year...to say that Texas will never lose a recruit to TCU or Tech (or even that A&M will never lose a recruit to TCU or Tech) is unrealistic.

Not sure Eagles is coming back (don't follow UT much) but he could be a great outside WR for a year

He's not.

Troy Omiere will be the outside guy next year.
quote:

I don't think they enjoy any big advantage here...players are more and more willing to go out of state to the hot programs...and there is so much competition in-state with the other Power 5 schools...

Texas A&M moving to the SEC was the best move they ever did...no offense to the Big 12 but conference is largely irrelevant outside of Texas and OU. The SEC is top dog and is highly attractive to stud HS playes...Aggies have a strong selling point (playing in the SEC) over UT.

If those factors were insurmountable, then Texas would be in the 10-15 (or lower) range in recruiting classes in the last 3-4 years. But it's been in the 3-8 range (though I take class rankings with a big grain of salt). Out of state schools taking great players from Texas is nothing really new. Tech, TCU, Baylor are not recruiting at any higher level than they ever did. A&M is recruiting well - but they've recruited well in many periods of time before. OSU's success in Texas (to me) feels like Notre Dame's success in the 80s...Bama's feels like Miami's of the 80s-90s.

No one thinks every stud is going to Texas. That isn't realistic and hasn't been for a very, very long time. Having the right head coach is the key to everything.
quote:

is he still on the team, and what is his problem with the program?

He is foregoing his senior (or extra, I guess) year and "preparing for the draft."

His problems with the program are a long story...not worth getting into. They involve him being asked to play injured (not just "hurt" in his opinion) and the whole BLM thing/Eyes of Texas stuff.
quote:

It’s really LBs that I think are tough in state.

I agree with this. Finding a LB that has the tools to defend the run and the pass as needed is tough. Or try and convince a bigger safety to spin down (which not all want to do). Overshown did that well this year but I think we're about to have a guy portal because he was asked to do that and refused (but he ain't getting playing time at FS). We'll see what happens with new coaches.
quote:

Like it or not but Texas is not even a top ten program at this point.

I disagree on that (we're not top 5 of course...I put us around 8ish but it gets tougher after 5). We are the prime example of what happens when you don't have the right head coach.
quote:

Ehlenger seems like an easy bet.

Absolutely, 100% no.

I don't think Sam likes Herman, but he would not do that.
quote:

who was the player?

Rumored to be a DB. Fairly good player - earlier in the year he was much involved with some of the outside stuff going on (protests etc.). I'm not going to name him but you can probably figure it out. Again, no idea if it is 100% true but I do believe it (and reported on Austin radio this morning, not just message board stuff...not the guy's name, just "a player or two").
quote:

But where physical defensive football is NOT king. Why do you think the majority of Fisher's defensive recruits are from out of state?

I don't follow Aggie recruiting so that very well might be right, but it looks like out of the 16 "starters" (taking into account the "ors") on the defense, all but 4 are from Texas. Couple DC guys, 1 LA guy, maybe 1 guy from somewhere else?

I think that finding good DLs is harder in Texas, but Leal (I realize he's a DE) is pretty good. So is Brown. So is Keondre Coburn.
quote:

Texas is not the program you think they are.......

I'm quite realistic about the program that it is...but do tell.
quote:

Texas is a miserable place to coach I think. Herman is a good coach, but his personality didn't mesh with the boosters, just like Charlie Strong.

His personality didn't mesh with anyone because he's an arrogant prick - boosters don't like him, players (some) hate him, his AD doesn't like him. Bru McCoy - 5 star WR from SoCal - spurns USC to come to Texas and then portals back because Herman was such an arse to him. Entitled kid? Maybe so but I don't blame him for leaving. Herman is the ultimate fake tough guy. He often canceled meetings with his AD (and president) simply because he didn't feel like meeting.

People actually liked Charlie Strong a lot, but he had 3 straight losing seasons. Can't do that. The only reason Herman got year 4 WAS because he had put together a decent won loss record.

And bottom line, Herman didn't win enough games. Losing to teams like TCU and Maryland, which clearly have inferior "raw" talent, won't fly. No ranked team has lost to unranked teams more than Texas under Herman...ever.

While the recruiting classes ranked pretty well, the WR and OL recruiting was abysmal and the 2022 class was tanking like hell. Current players (at least one we know of) were telling recruits and grad transfers not to come to Texas.

But to answer the subject question - he was unable to get Texas back on track because his arrogance did not allow him to change what needed to change.

And by back on track I don't mean go to the CFP every year he was here - but in 4 years, 1 Big12 title appearance.

Not that the Texas 247 mods would know but no, Muschamp isn't going to be DC. Wouldn't be surprised if Ash was kept.

It's hard for many my age to accept, but USC just isn't an upper tier program anymore.

A school like USC is just the right head coach hire away from being an upper tier program and, frankly a top 1-2 program.

Bama, Texas, LSU, USC, Ohio State, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma, ND

they've all wandered the wilderness for some time periods due to not having the right head coach. Some more than others. Ohio State has had probably the least amount of time in that wilderness. I'd say Michigan (and I'd put Tennessee and Nebraska in there too) has the hardest time escaping the wilderness these days due to not being located within the best recruiting areas (or, in the case of Tenn, being in the right away but surrounded by several other big programs). ND as well along with the academics.

UT boosters were done with Herman when he fricked up the eyes of Texas drama and the players leaving the field agains OU. He was done after that no matter what.

I think the OU thing got overblown. It was a bad look from that one image capture....but that's not where Herman fricked that issue up.

Reportedly, the AD told every UT coach that the players did not to be forced to sing the Eyes after games/matches/whatever, but did need to stay on the playing surface for it. Herman supposedly told the football players that he didn't care if they stayed on the field after the game or not....THEN tried to claim that there were not "clear instructions" from the AD. of course, 3-4 other coaches (volleyball, basketball) were interviewed right after that saying that the instructions were clear.

Bottom line, he didn't win enough games. He needed to win the Big12 this year when OU clearly had one of its worst teams in years and instead was out of it by the 3rd conference game.

I'd give Sark a lot of leeway for UDub. They were a complete dumpster fire after Willingham. Clearly his drinking caused issues at USC. He has a good, high ceiling but a floor that looks like a mine shaft to hell. I hope for his personal sake that he gets close to the ceiling.

Who is Kendra Scott

Wiki - basically rich, hot entrepreneur lady

Rumored affair - she recently divorced her second husband.
quote:

Any Texas baws heard the name Kendra Scott in connection with Herman's firing?

Yes, of course there has been that rumor.

ETA - to be clear, I would be shocked if that had anything to do with the firing. But it is consistent with a pattern of behavior that is not exactly conducive to a good image...or evidence that you're giving 100% to your job as head coach.
