Not going to get me to defend the Saudis but realpolitik is a thing and, as horrible as they are, an Islamist fundamentalist government in place of the royals there would be FAR worse.
As shitty as they are, they are better than the alternative.
I don’t think we can say that with regards to the Chinese government.

quote:Oh, I agree.
The problem is that the NBA has tried to have its cake and eat it too with regards to social issues.
It calls out parts of the US and punished them unless change is made (NC bathroom law) but it won’t say shite to a totalitarian dictatorship which has a TV contract with them.
But it doesn't change my point, the NBA's response here should not have been surprising to anyone.

My point is that this is the logical end game to a lot of this woke bullshite.
Kind of like how the Lakers and various other organizations / players in Los Angeles wouldn’t say shite about the Armenian genocide during the day of mourning each year because the team and Kobe in particular had financial ties to Turkish companies which deny such a genocide ever took place.
If you want to be woke, you gotta call them down the middle. You can’t call out someone for jaywalking and look the other way on homicide.

quote:Correct. But I question the mental capacity of anyone that thought Lebron, Kerr, and Pop werent complete frauds
Those dudes are the de facto leaders and champions of change and social justice. Them not speaking out on this basically undercuts any other thing they've ever fought for as it just shows their intentions aren't pure IMO.

Oh I think we knew they were frauds. I just didn’t think a situation would come up that exposed them as such.

I can’t imagine anyone being SURPRISED by the NBA’s response/WokePop’s silence. I think most are just enjoying this inevitable shitshow

The spurs played 2 days ago. How did nobody ask pop about this?

Clay Travis: China walked right up to Adam Silver and smacked him in the mouth and Adam said "Thank you. Can I have another?". He went full on bitch mode when China stepped up to him.

As of February of 2018, NBA China was valued at more than $4 billion or $133 million in value for each of the 30 teams, according to Mike Ozanian of Forbes. The NBA initially signed a five-year, $700 million deal in 2015 with Tencent to carry NBA games in China. The NBA signed an extension in Tencent in July of 2019 worth $1.5 billion over five years, according to the Wall Street Journal.

So, is the NBA now officially pro-slavery?

Silver goes full on bitch mode when anyone steps up to him. The only time he's taken a "stand" was with Donald Sterling and that wasn't the least bit controversial in NBA circles.
He lets the players walk all over him like a doormat.

Our friends over at r/translator have confirmed that this is the correct translation
Full statement:
We are deeply disappointed by Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey's inappropriate speech, he has undoubtedly gravely hurt the feelings of the China fans. Morey has clarified that his speech does not represent the Rockets and NBA's stand. Under the values of the NBA, people may seek a deeper understanding and share their views on matters that interest them. We deeply respect China's history and culture, (and) hope that sports and NBA may act as unifying forces of positive energy, (and) continue to build bridge for the interaction of international culture, to unite people together.
A few subtle changes to the Chinese statement go a long way. The nba is spineless

it was only when sterling was recorded being a racist shitbag that the league acted. donald sterling had been the same exact racist shitbag for decades prior to then, right among the rest of the owners and teams.
its not like he was in exile prior to that. they knew, and did nothing

ESPN is totally spooked by this. The Jump has started off with Lakers preseason game, never short on Lakers slurping so they might've done that anyway, and what the Warriors will do at center. Finally got to the Rockets story before going to commercial. Did nothing but state the facts and Jorge Sedano looked like he was reading Silver's statement at gunpoint.

Pretty sure they're in Shanghai, so this might actually be the case.

Because ESPN obviously has huge interests in China. They trade freedom for money.

Rachel is, he's still in LA. It's going to be fascinating to see who's the first person to slip up and give an opinion.

Pretty sure ESPN has a crew over in China right now.
They were probably scared shitless to say anything other than the approved party line lest someone not come home.
