there's a legit argument to be made about the coaches and their own/financial interests, too

when your primary argument works against you, it's probably a bad argument

Coaches will still have to wear helmets on the field according to the other coaches I've spoken to. I would love to not have to wear it. I'll never get hit on the top of my head so it is pointless

But this is not an LHSAA rule. This is a NFHS rule. The LHSAA cant just make rules that say we wont follow that NFHS rule.

Then why was it even up for vote?

I'm also curious where this is written in the NFHS rule book.

States should never leave NOLA.

Baton Rouge & possibly Lafayette for some occasional variety if folks couldn't stand a monopoly.

Most likely will not be NOLA. Only two places that are big enough to host the tournament are the Superdome and the Arena and both will be way too expensive for the LHSAA.

Right now, the best site would be the Rivercenter. It's big enough to host and centrally-located. Cajundome is another option, the only issue is that ULL gets priority on dates.

They can't do it in the Alario Center????

Or in a baseball stadium??? Zephyr Field???? Jesuit once hosted a dual meet at their baseball stadium in early November against St. Paul's

Not close to enough floor space in the area with the seating. The tournament requires, at a minimum, 10 mats.

I think the river center would be a great choice. Like you said, centrally located and would be good chance for Southwest LA and BR people to get to see it. I wrested at Fontainebleau in High School, and some for the Club team at LSU back in 05-06. It's such an exciting tournament, and there are a lot of great wrestlers in the state.

Many times the wrestling meet has been held at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner

I'm tired of hearing about splits. It's obvious they are here to stay. The publics will not go back to playing in the playoffs with the privates in the major sports. The privates are wasting their time continuing to try to fix this.

It's time for the private schools to either shut up and accept their second-tier status, or drop out and form their own group. As a graduate of a private school, I hate that it has come to this, but here we are.

I don't know if you realized the private schools just made a big step forward without a lot of people realizing it. They just voted to host their own bball tournaments for post season. Look to the private schools to start moving themselves more and more in their own corner, eventually turning this around and using it to be able to do things the way they want to do them and make more money for their programs. Wouldn't be surprised if this emboldens a lot of private programs.

Lol that quote by the Fontainebleau AD in Jim Perry's article embodied Democrats perfectly... frick up something, then claim attempts to fix the problem make things worse

Are there 333 schools that play in 1A-5A? Did the B/C schools get to vote? If so, why do they get to vote on a matter that has NOTHING to do with them?

I have never in my life heard of a baseball coach who got seriously injured while coaching as the first base or third base coach.

You want a coach to be forced to wear a cup? Because you know, if they do get hit in the nads with a batted ball they would have wished that the NFHS made them wear a cup every game.

Mike Coolbaugh

Admittedly, the ball struck him below the ear and a helmet as they are required to wear now wouldn't have done a thing to protect him from that.

Mike Coolbaugh was killed coaching 3rd base in Arkansas during a minor league game. Line drive right to the temple.
