the LHSAA convention agenda is out... (long post)
Posted on 1/11/18 at 6:12 pm
Posted on 1/11/18 at 6:12 pm
here are some highlights...
the full agenda- 60 pages
they list pros and cons under some of the agenda items now...
Kilbourne wants kids to establish their school of first choice when they suit up in 7th and 8th grade as opposed to entering 9th... must have lost kids to Oak Grove
Tommy Byler from North Vermilion (you'll see his name a lot) wants to ban kids from independent 7 on 7 football... no more Bootleggers.
a few sports have this on the agenda: For playoff competition, schools that are classified as nonselect but have registered a student or
students through the online registration system as “not” living in school’s athletic attendance zone shall compete in the select playoff bracket.
Beekman Charter, Bastrop, and Sterlington want to make LHSAA athletes younger... by going from the September 1 cutoff to August 1. i'm sure they have their reasons.
D'Arbonne Woods wants to let schools play up in certain sports if they choose but not all
Mr. Byler wants to make all the non-select classes in football equal... no more of this 50-something 5A teams and 20-something 1A schools bullshite.
the executive committee wants to reclassify every FOUR years now
Acadiana and Sam Houston want to get compensated for the games they lost gate money from when two other teams had to forfeit from a fight... this Chalmette fan cosigns bc we lost one of our chances to see Mitchell Robinson bc Helen Cox and Bonnabel got in a fight
the executive committee wants to ban high school freshman teams from playing middle schools...
the executive committee wants to close a loophole in which if an LHSAA team loses an out of state football game, it doesn't have to be reported to the power rating system because the out of state team can't access the system
Beau Chene wants to legislate walk-up music...
a real con to a proposal from Ascension Episcopal: "Could expose the coaches to the danger of head trauma while participating in an LHSAA sanctioned event"
Ben Franklin wants to divide Division II baseball into East and West, and St. Charles Catholic gets the short end of the stick
Acadiana and Barbe want the 5A baseball playoffs to go best 2 of 3 in round 1 as well as round 2 and the quarterfinals it might be Barbe's baby after losing in a single game in round 1, but all 5A schools will benefit...
Simsboro and Choudrant want to add "play-up" points to the basketball power ratings
the Lakeside principal wants to count out of state games in the power ratings for basketball... and Benton and Denham Springs want to do so for baseball...
the LFCA wants to create football divisions separate from other sports
the executive committee wants to define power ratings in football as to the hundreth of a point. it impacted some seedings when teams calculated it out to the thousanths...
Ecole Classique wants to create a non-football 1A designation...
soccer wants to expand their playoffs from 24 teams to 32 teams per division... remember, they don't have a split in soccer
the Teurlings principal wants to get rid of the split in several sports
St. Thomas More and Parkview want to decrease the number of select softball divisions from 5 to 3
Softball wants to get rid of the doubleheader of state semis and finals on the same day... they also want to go to the same power rating system as baseball.
the executive committee wants to set a minimum price of $5 i guess for volleyball playoff games... what if we want to charge $4.99?? also for volleyball they want to have adults calling the lines rather than kids and expand the playoffs from 24 to 32 teams
Wrestling wants to take control of their sport back from the executive committee who sent the state tournament to Bossier City even though most wrestling schools are along I-10

No De La Salle to the catholic league. No care.

Baseball coaches don't want to be forced to wear the silly little hats. But I agree, "head trauma while participating in a LHSAA sanctioned event" would be a bummer.

Holy crap these people are idiots. This list reminds me of what the roughnecks in "Armageddon" asked for from NASA. "To know who killed Kennedy, stay the summer in the White house.
"Yeah, I'm sure we can take care of....some of that"

Here’s the De la Salle rule for this year:
the executive committee wants to ban high school freshman teams from playing middle schools.

My former head football coach. I see he’s been busy since he’s been principal of the school.

I wonder when they lost...
It should be 2/3 in all 5 rounds

1. The eliminating bootleggers thing has a chance to pass. Lots of coaches are against these teams. It will be close.
2. The 2/3 Baseball playoff series is great except for the fact that they want it effective immediately. This would mean season has to end earlier than supposed to, and most teams have games scheduled after proposed new end date.
3. I always thought it was rediculous volleyball let kids call the lines

quote:I don't understand why they can't go later into May with baseball... Doesn't Texas play till June? Also if 5A goes to a best of 3 first round, I hope both schools in a series get the chance to host. The lower seed for one game in the middle of the week from Tuesday through Thursday and the higher seed on Friday and/or Saturday.

That's shitty, cause not all schools even have 7v7 teams.
Plus I don't see how they can tell kids what they can and cannot do with their time during the summer. How are 7v7 teams any different than AAU Basketball, Travel baseball teams, Club soccer teams.

States should never leave NOLA.
Baton Rouge & possibly Lafayette for some occasional variety if folks couldn't stand a monopoly.

Most seniors graduate in May, some quite early. In St. Tammany, they graduate as early as the first or second week.

Independent 7 v 7 teams, baseball travel teams, etc are threats to the LHSAA and high school sports. That’s why they are against them.
Colleges are now using these as recruiting platforms, and no longer showing up to the LHSAA events.
