So why hasn't phil won more majors with butch? He won more without him.

can you show a link? all of the information I've seen says Butch started with Woods back in 1993.

at some level I suppose it doesn't matter since his peak was really in a two year window from 2000-2002 (in which he won six majors)

Oh jesus. Are we going to have to debate every single golfer Butch has ever worked with instead of just acknowledging that Butch probably helped Tiger enormously?

Anyway, if we must then...
1) phil has an auto-immune disease
2) phil was already past his athletic peak
3) phil has still won 2 of his 5 majors since he started working with butch

But this is a distraction discussion anyway. I don't want to go down some idiotic rabbit hole where I get stuck arguing a great coach automatically improves a great golfer - not every great coach is right for every great golfer. But what I really don't get is the strong desire from many of Tiger's fans to denigrate the role of the coach. Every athlete needs a coach to excel and improve on their game.

Except Bubba, I'd have no fricking idea what to do with Bubba.

Yes butch helped tiger but I think he gets too much credit. I give him more credit than john anselmo who coached tiger to 3 us juniors in a row but let's not think butch was the main reason tiger became the most dominant golfer of all time.

Not necessarily because of this, but I wish there were more athletes like Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, etc. around. They were classy guys who played their game the right way and not in a "look at me" way. Those guys are a dying breed.

Very few indeed. Well said.

LULZ. Hypocrite and tPOS.

quote:

Golf Digest reported that in the aftermath of Watson’s divorce, his teenage children had cut him off, “the divorce has put the children all but out of his reach.”

So Watson’s wife of 25 years, who had been with him since high school, files for divorce. His kids cut him off. Less than two years later, Watson is married to a woman who had just left another PGA Tour player.

So how did Watson handle that suspicious series of events in public? Exactly like Woods. He didn’t handle it at all.
In a 1998 profile of Watson, Michael Bamberger of SPORTS ILLUSTRATED noted that Watson refused to talk about his divorce.

Don't put Jack Nicklaus with Tom Watson when it comes to class. Jack Nicklaus is pure class. Tom Watson, not so much.

To get back to the OP the Bear was straight trolling bro he came back right after that comment that he thought Tiger would still beat his record and said yeah if I don't say that I'm called an a-hole so...

Tiger is done I think now. I never thought it before. Having surgery he apparently has legitimate issues not just ducking as has been suggested. So with his body failing him and his putter failing him he's been toast.

Add that to the young guys and not so young guys like Adam Scott and Kuchar??? He needs FIVE!!

That's too big of a hill.

One maybe. Would not surprise me that he's done with majors.

I think Tiger makes it to 19 too. Good to see Jack agrees.
