Their 1st team has won 0%

Maybe we should expand it a little. Just a thought

or maybe the committee ranks teams in a way that doesn't lead to good outcomes

Yeah, the committee is in a position, knowing that they have four spots, to rank a team on resume rather than on eye test that they might actually believe to be better or worse than their actual ranking. There's a reason the semis are almost always blowouts. I truly believe expanding to any more than 4 teams would bastardize college football to a point that would ruin the game.

Just fricking invite the winners of each P5 conference like basketball does and did from the early days when it was just an 8 team and then a 16-team tournament...

And give an at-large and then be done with it.

6-teams...1 at large and 5 Conference champs.

#1 and #2 seeds get a bye.

Competition gets good when it's only 4 teams, and everyone knows Bama was the best team last year, but was #4 playoff seed.

That is absolutely false

Bama played 1 entire team in the top 15 last season and got beaten comfortably by them

They also needed a last minute comeback to beat miss state late in the year

They were a struggling team and most had them as the 4th team in the playoffs, or at best some thought maybe 3rd

it's college football, the more bureaucratic oversight we can incorporate the better.

Exactly. The committee was in a position to where they knew they could just slot Bama at 4 and not have to make a tough decision had there only been 2 slots. Ohio State was the only anomaly in the playoffs. Four is perfect. Really, 3 is perfect, but at that point you have to have 4.

6 or 8 create shitty matchups that are pointless and completely devalues the greatest part of college football, the regular season.

how about no at-larges unless you're an independent who wins at least 11 games. if you're in a conference, you have to win it

make the regular season matter again

With 6 teams you would have had Oklahoma vs UGA and Ohio State vs ND

I think there is a damn good probability the two teams that made the playoff would have been the losers there......

well they also adjust rankings to avoid issues like Bama playing UGA in a semi last year

I don't think using a rate stat for a population of 5 is valid justification for anything.

Why would expansion lead to better rankings?

Do some of you even think before you post?

If the committee ranked teams based on order of most likely to win the playoff you would have a point.

Yup most years there are only 2-3 worthy teams. Decades worth of data support this.

I get the 4th being added just for fanfare purposes

#3 has never won either.

Obviously, 2 should just play 4 from now on.

If you insist on 4 teams, then take the top 4 even numbers: 2, 4, 6, and 8.
