Yup most years there are only 2-3 worthy teams. Decades worth of data support this.
this year there was only one until last night

#3 has never won either.

Obviously, 2 should just play 4 from now on.

If you insist on 4 teams, then take the top 4 even numbers: 2, 4, 6, and 8.

The lack of logic grasping in here fuels me

If the team we deem the "worst" is winning at a clip of 40%, while the team we deem "best" hasnt won, it leads us to believe we might not entirely understand who the best team truly is by watching the regular season, and stopping at 4 may actually be keeping the best team at home

You criticize the rankings and then say "maybe we should expand a little" but I'm the lost one here?

Not really

3 undefeated teams needed to sort each other out.

Oklahoma should have never been given an opportunity.

The #1 team lost to the #2 team.

We need changes across the board!!!

This is an overreaction

This year proved how absolutely dumb expansion would be

Reading the arguments that spin it otherwise is amusing though

Michigan got blown tf out in their last two games of the season. If we expanded to 8 or 12, and cut out the conference title game, they would’ve been the #4 seed

Yeah, let’s do expansion because Alabama lost to another undefeated team!!!

Maybe we should expand it a little. Just a though

Not quite following your logic. But let me take a shot at it.

So...because the two best teams were significantly better than everybody else, that strengthens the argument that we need to expand the playoffs?

Ya imagine some of these jokes wanting to put Michigan into a playoff. It's sickening they have voting rights

No, because the last team in has won 40% of the time, there is too much of a possibility we are leaving the best team out

Also, the MAJORITY of the time, the #4 seed has lost by at least two scores.

And 40% of the time the 1 seed has suffered a double digit loss

It goes to show we dont know as much shite as we think about a regular season with over 100 teams where cross conference play is limited

if you were the best team, you would have been top 4 in December

one suggestion i haven't seen: 1 vs. 6, 2 vs. 5, and 3 vs. 4 with a championship game the next week

basically if #1 or #2 win, they're in. #6 can't win the championship but can knock #1 out. #5 can only get in if they and #6 win, which would make #5 vs. #3 or #4. All 3 first round games would be called semifinals

Their #2 team was significantly better than their #1 and #3 teams. Their #1 team was 11 points better than their #4 team. And that's about it.

So, if in December of 2014, the committee decided to rank TCU ahead of OSU, then OSU all of a sudden is not the best team?

OSU was that close to not getting in. A decision of 13 people sitting around

And TCU still may have been the best team that year. They were absolutely legit
