Yep, that began the downfall of ridding the team of a WS winning core.

Having Olson instead of Freddie is a wash. Plus Olson is 4 years younger.

And I wasn't sad letting Dansby go.

Last year is injuries, but even so the last three years, our hitting in the playoffs disappears. Hopefully the new hitting coach can get it fixed, because it has been dreadful.

When is the tv contract up? 2027? That should free up the purse strings. Unfortunately, the cupboard will be bare by then.

Lol no Olson for Freddie is not a wash. I don’t care how you all try and justify it. Freddie is an all time great hall of famer. Olson is not Freddie

This was the first frick up they had when they tried to have a window and make a run. It was all downhill from there. Just got worse and worse with each progressive move

Looks like the Red Sox are getting Crochet. Not sure the Braves had the headliner or the prospect depth to be a legit contender for him.

Give me a break guys.....Before Freddie had an epic WS, he hit fricking .228 in all of the playoff series. And the bottom line is, Freddie fricked it up. He let his agent, that he later fired, frick him over.

We’re not going to do anything of note. Gonna grab a couple more players no one else wants and hope we’re the smartest team in the room.

We're signing Financial Flexibility. He and Charlie Morton will be on a year-to-year contract until the end of time.

We fricked it up by letting a prime reigning MVP winner hit the open market prior to the 2021 season.

So we're just ignoring that Langeliers and Contreras are better catchers (and younger catchers) than Murphy?

Cool.

Didn’t say that. As you can see in my other post I said we needed a catcher. Murphy was a miss. When we got him everyone thought it was the right move. It wasn’t.

But part of that miss is that we gave up a young catcher to get Olson because we lost Freddie.

It's not just that we lost MLB's most productive 1B and a clubhouse leader by not paying Freddie, it's that we then had to deplete our farm to make a big trade just to get worse at 1B.

And that's not meant as a slight towards Olson, he's a good 1B, but he's not as productive as Freddie.

I really am becoming a broken record because I constantly feel like I'm saying this, but then it keeps getting brought up by people who don't seem to grasp the chain reaction that occurred simply because we didn't keep Freddie.

I don’t think we keep Lanogliers anyway. Contreras was the mistake. I don’t think we win a World Series if we have Freddie any of the past three years though.

It doesn’t matter. He’s gone. We need to figure out how to move forward.

The point is that we could've used Langeliers and the rest of the farm assets to make a splash move for a SS.

Instead we have Arcia playing there now because our farm is depleted from making moves we didn't have to make (C & 1B)

Y’all act like the Braves are doomed. All this talk of a window, The Braves are poised to make the playoffs every year. And the future is all set up because we aren’t hindered by huge contracts. Meanwhile, the Mets and Phillies are sacrificing their future for the same window the Braves have without leveraging their future. As a Braves guy, I love where we are as a franchise. A perennial top 5 team with a consistent team and wide open future. The Phil’s are gonna endure a bunch of rough years in the future.

With the way the current incarnation of the Braves are built, signing guys to early extensions manage the cost over time, there is going to be a window. It’s also reliant on the farm systems ability to find star caliber players.

Agreed. The Braves window is wide open and will be for the foreseeable future. We don’t have any money tied into past prime players. None. That gives AA a lot of flexibility year to year and keeps our window wide open. Meantime, other teams with the marquee signings may have a current window but have very little flexibility for years.

The Braves will continue to plow the Latin market for the next set of core players. The American draft is just a fools errand outside of a few gems, ala Skenes. The Orioles are the team I’m interested in seeing how they handle their organization. They’ve built it up but will they give extensions or watch their stars disappear to to the Bronx or Queens. Gonna be interesting. Meanwhile, the Braves will continue to be a boring off s3ason team that will make the playoffs year after year and hope to get hot at the right time.

Flexibility to do what exactly? Be as cheap as possible and hope for the best?

ETA: all the same, I’m already counting the days until Spring Training.
