The product of MLB is just a crappy shadow of its former self. I kind of feel sorry for those of you in your 20s and 30s who have had to watch this garbage for the last 5-10 years. Hitting for a good average of .285 or better used to be a standard with slap singles, opposite field gappers, hit and run, swinging bunts. Back in the 80s, we had all that and would see 6-8 stolen base attempts per game. This swinging for the fence or deep doubles against the wall crap at every at-bat is just shite compared to what the game once was. Cant even watch it anymore.

We say that, but we're what, between 5th and 10th in payroll?

This conversation is premature, we're still playing ball, but I think we've got to limit the comparators to a) teams around is in spend who do better, and that is a very, very short list and b) teams who spend less and do less, but could conceivably do more than us if they had our $$$.

Then within that set of comparators, the questions really become the AA strategy for building a roster, and, IMO, most likely the inherent trade off between his strategy of maximizing regular season value out of spare parts and what that leads to in the postseason.

Though, as others have said, it hasn't really burned us this year (perhaps aside from bench options) IMO, it's the solid core that hasn't delivered.

Braves games are just a night out that happens to have a baseball game going on for 90% of the fans there, and that's how Liberty wants it. They make more off you leaving in the 4th inning to go drink at the battery that they do you staying the whole game.

I'm 25 and I can't tell you how many times my old man has said the exact same words you just said. Everyone swings for the fences now. The idea of trying to get a ball in play and bring in runs doesn't cross any hitter's mind anymore. So many chances tonight where we could have brought in runs and we swing (and miss) as hard as we can against pitches in the dirt and at our eyes. It's so frustrating. I've seen Chipper say similar as well. We'd benefit so much if he became the permanent hitting coach

Back in the 80s, you didn't have 5 flamethrowers coming out of every bullpen throwing 99 mph fastballs with wipeout sliders.

good relievers back in those days were at a premium. yeah all teams did not have those types like now. you are correct. starters went alot longer back then. even well into the 90s teams did not have all those smoke throwing relievers like now.

I don't give a frick about Freddie or who he is as a person. I give a frick that he's a good player.

I like it when my team has good players.

I don't like it when my team lets good players walk.

I also don't like it when me team lets good players walk to the team you were directly competing with for NL supremacy.

Speaking of letting good players walk, or in this case, pushing out good players. William Contreras has more home runs this postseason in three games than any Braves player does in six games.

it me or does it seem like every single time Chris Sale pitches we can't score more than zero or one run?

It feels like those Sunday Bobby Cox lineups, except that’s our everyday lineup

I don't get it either. Matt Olson has been bad for the last month, but without Olson we may not have even made the playoffs.

But if we only had Freddie, he somehow would've willed us to some more World Seres in the last few years through the sheer force of being Freddie Freeman.

Pitching has not been a problem in this post season.. our offense just fricking sucks when it matters. We are leaving way too many runners on base

Do I need to post the career postseason OPS again?

Even if you take the postseason out, Freddie since 2022 has been better than Olson and is a big reason why the Dodgers got over the hump after we beat them in 2021.

Agreed.

People won't agree with this but oh well. Part of sports is the entertainment piece, its supposed to be something we enjoy and don't necessarily have to min-max every little aspect of in the name of "financial flexibility" or getting a player who in theory might be 5% more productive over the life of a contract but is ultimately just some guy who people will say "Oh yeah, he had a few good years in Atlanta".

When you have a guy who is a good player, beloved by fans, who came up in your system, and by all accounts should (and so far has) age pretty well, I think you should keep that guy. Even outside of the baseball ability and fun/entertainment aspect had Freddie retired a Brave (or at least spent the vast majority of his prime years as a Brave), there is value in having a guy there long term to establish a culture in how you want to do things.

Langliers has turned into a pretty good player too. AA is lucky Baldwin was a hit because catcher has otherwise been a carnival of errors for him.

The Dodgers didn't get over the hump until they added Shohei. They lost in the NLDS in 2022 (in 4 to SD) and 2023 (in 3 to ARZ) just like we did.

i do not give it much thought either way. it's over. out our control. announcers said freddie had no homers his last 60 games. then hits 2 against us. typical.

I blame AA. need to pick a core to keep and develop and trade the rest or cut them loose.

most likely time to move on from

acuna
riley
many others.

get someone worthy for ronald before he falls off. he has only batted in the 250's 2 out the last 3 years. worst 3 year span in his career. we need playoff performers.

we need a stacked pitching staff

then build around

ozzie
olson
harris

matt had 41 HR and freddie had what? 16 all year?
freddie is 37. see how much longer he plays.

You can put a roster of a bunch of streaky guys together and they can mash in the regular season against Triple A Timothy but its a different ballgame when you're facing good pitchers every night.

Even in the regular season facing those top guys is different because in the playoffs they aren't coming off a late night flight from Seattle or wherever else, on a strict pitch or innings count, etc. You may or may not be locked in for 1 of 162 but you definitely are come playoff time.
