The idea of two G5 schools getting into the playoffs is beyond idiotic.

this isn’t our first ever conference title game. Example: we just played Clemson in 2019 for conference title representing the Coastal division

Yeah, I guess I had mentally blocked out the Clemson massacre.

Miami is going to be left out with a head to head win over ND, because they didnt win their conference.

Yet ND who does not play in a conference will not be penalized.

The playoff is so stupid sometimes.

But I think even that door is shut now.

So at this point teams in for sure I assume are

OSU
Indiana
Oregon
UGA
Bama
A&M
OU
Ole Miss
Texas Tech
UNT/Tulane

That’s 10 teams.

Potential
BYU
Miami
Notre Dame
Virginia

Top 5 conference champs would be
SEC, big 12, big 10, aac, ACC (if UVA wins)

If Virginia wins that gets them an auto I assume. If Duke wins it goes to what JMU?

Leaving 1 at large.

If BYU beats Tech I would assume tech still gets an at large which takes all the spots.

If BYU loses then it’s between Miami/ND.

I think that is pretty accurate.

Then the rules shouldn’t have been written to guarantee conference champions in or they should have been written to provide dedicated conference tie ins.

Blame the ACC and Big 12 for not wanting their inferiority in writing and accepting the 2 auto bids

No auto bids for any conference, not even SEC

It’s 5 highest ranked conference champs, period

If JMU is ranked in the CFP poll, would the ACC miss the playoff entirely if Duke wins?

If JMU is ranked above them, then yes

Not only do they not play in the conference, they play a reduced schedule of Miami’s conference to boot.

Bama
a 17 point loss to UGA, who is their signature win, would have them squarely on the bubble against teams like Miami

Well, half of ND’s schedule was that shitty ACC conference.

Would love to see Duke wins and JMU lose.

Who wins 12 seed

Bama is not a lock if they lose because you may have a team like Miami or ND in over them. Hell Vandy may have an argument.

There has to be some punishment for losing by two TDs to a team that went 5-7.

If I recall, Bama fans were more than happy to claim that OSU should not make the BCS game in 2011 because of an OT loss to a 6-6 team despite better overall wins than Bama.

Amazing how they change their logic when it suits them.

My next question…

What if 5 conference champions aren’t ranked? Let’s say JMU gets upset in the Sunbelt title game, and Duke wins the ACC.

The committee wouldn’t rank Duke in their Top 25. So would it only be the top 4 conference champs at that point?
