You know we watched this episode before when Butler was in Philly, right?

Debatable. If Orlando gives them the 8th this year and a first next year, I bet that’s gets it done. Who you giving up that’s an All-Star for Brick Simmons?

This just screams someone Orlando would trade assets for. Long, can’t shoot and underdeveloped.

Philly isn't trying to get worse, so I don't think they do a pick based deal. They want a player of similar value, but better fit in the deal.

Something that I haven't seen mentioned, but I think could be a potential trade would be a sign and trade of Lowry for Simmons.

Orlando is in heavy tank mode so they aren’t giving up that pick next year unless it’s heavily protected.

There’s certainly options out there that they’ll have, butif you take out the possibility of another player for player trade with Simmons, someone would give more assets than the 8th pick (in a 4 player draft) for Simmons.

His value around the league is a lot higher than you’d think listening to the first take desk.

I don’t see how you could argue Simmons wouldn’t fit great in GS, when we’ve literally seen them do the exact thing with a less talented player with similar disadvantages (and worst ones tbh)

Theoretically Simmons would be a great fit for GS. The one thing that would give me pause is his complete insistence on being the main ball handler. If he was more willing to be a secondary play maker it would work great but is he willing to step aside for Steph in the big moments?

Dallas is another place he might work but again, with Luka being so ball dominant would he be happy getting essentially turned into a Lamar Odom type w/more assists but no 3 point shooting?

That's really the biggest issue with any fit TBH. The guy is convinced he should be the PG and doesn't need to change how he plays. If he would at least take 3s when open it wouldn't be such an issue but his complete refusal to shoot jumpers really limits what all teams he would fit with.

I haven’t seen anything from Simmons that demands he be the main hall handler and play maker, that’s kind of his whole issue he clearly has no problem deferring in big moments

I don’t know where you got this impression

Also GS made a living off of Bogut being the initiator in 2015 and Dray being a main ball handler during their run. Steph and klay are deadly on off-ball offense. Simmons as the main ball handler makes perfect sense

Pelicans trading for Simmons would essentially put them in the same situation as Philly, if not worse.

Still a playoff caliber team, the question becomes what are we gonna be giving up for him.

Ball+picks, sure
Ingram+picks, no

Look, I don't hate Ben like some LSU folks do. I'm not particularly fond of the way he handled some things here and in the immediate aftermath, but they knighted that kid early on in high school and it's hard to keep that in check at that age and beyond.

But the stats were always impressive but a bit hollow to me, it kind of hid some what should have been obvious deficiencies.

It even took NBA analysts a few years to reach that same conclusion, cause the stats still looked great on paper, just like here, even though watching games I still saw what I saw here and I was always left a bit underwhelmed honestly.

Even had an ESPN talking head saying last year he was the best point guard in the NBA??? Bet he would like to take that one back.

He's a 6-10 guy who can dribble and handle the ball better than any 6-10 guy I've ever seen, and he can get some boards when he wants. But the lack of threat to knock down even a 10-footer finish at the rim and to make free throws has really been exposed and no one is rationalizing for it anymore. Well, almost no one.

as long as you get to hold him prisoner until he can shoot a jumper from ft line, a 3 pt shot from head of circle and a jump hook off glass from 8 feet. then he gets free.
not until.
I bet one week tops.

I don’t understand how a guy can be so coordinated and athletic in every other aspect of the game, but can’t shoot. Shooting shouldn’t be difficult if you are coordinated and grew up playing basketball. Some are better shooters than others, but he can’t even hit wide open shots. It’s mind-boggling.

He’s a 60% free throw shooter. There are people on this forum who can shoot better than 60% from the line.
