You can put Simmons out there next to Steph and Klay to hide his offensive liabilities but that is a lot of money to pay for a defense only player.

If he can body up and play more in the lane and off the ball his offense might be more valuable. Right now as a PG he just can't score enough. But I agree with you.

That is an $8m / season difference in Simmons being more expensive and Dray, while good, hasn’t lived up to his current contract.

Given their age and skill sets, that’s easily worth the extra 8 mil.

Golden state is currently paying Andrew Wiggins max type money to be a sometimes offensive type player and a never defense player, you can live with more faults in a player when they are lined up to Steph and klay and in that system

This is proven by their success with Draymond, which hasn’t hit above 30 percent behind the arc in 3 years

Didn't want to start a separate thread and since Sexton has been mentioned:

Per Shams the New York Knicks are the “most aggressive” Collin Sexton suitor.

A package that would include Obi Toppin, Kevin Knox, and one of New York’s 2021 first rounders appears to be an option for Collin Sexton after reaching out to a source.

Wiggins is there because they knew they were going to suck due to all the injuries and wanted to accumulate assets.

Taking on Wiggins was part of that cost and he helped get them to a top 4 pick IIRC.

I’m just saying, I’ll take a player with 1 elite skill over a player with 1 good skill regardless of offensive vs defensive

I don’t see how you could argue Simmons wouldn’t fit great in GS, when we’ve literally seen them do the exact thing with a less talented player with similar disadvantages (and worst ones tbh)

ETA went back and maybe I misunderstood your point being more about financials. But Golden state doesn’t have too many options out there for available Vets that would raise their ceiling, Simmons is the best option out there

The problem isn’t play as much as salary cap.

Steph, Klay, and Simmons would take up so much cap space that they would be in the tax for years and scrounging for help due to a lack of assets. And this wouldn’t be the Warriors of a few years ago who were deep in the tax but world beaters.

They would flip dray and Wiggins in this scenario which clears up 50 mil in salary. Simmons is around 30, you add in Dray and use the extra room to get some more depth pieces and you’re good to go.

Of course now you have to wonder why the 76ers would take that trade

Ben needs to go somewhere with a really good coach who can get him in line.

Perhaps Sproelstra in Miami could speak some sense into him. Although i think Jimmy Buckets still hates Ben from his Philly stint.

Steve Kerr could do wonders for Ben's career imo. A core of Stephz Klay, and Ben would be pretty dangerous.

Maybe the Clippers as well. Ty Lue has a way of getting his players to play hard for him. Not to mention being next to Kawhi and PG is a whole lot of length to try and score against.

Any other good fits.

“Sophomore of the Year” should be traded to his native Australia. Team USA would benefit by knocking the Aussies down a bit. Eh, mate?

I’m not saying they would trade those two players for Simmons btw and I noted earlier it’s a lot easier said than done so I’m not trying to airchair GM too hard, just laying out the path

They have the assets that could entice Philly (draft picks, possibly wisemen) or could atleast be leveraged in a 3 team trade to make it work.

Wiggins they would likely have to attach future picks to send him to another team in a separate transaction to clear space

Draymond could probably fetch you a positive asset since he’s on an expiring deal.

Would it be that hard for him to lock himself inside a gym for a few days and figure out how to shoot a basketball?

He'd probably be better off with a sports psychologist than locked in a gym.

He’s got more value than that.
