So the crowd chants USA for Bryson, but not Cantlay...is Bryson more American than Cantlay? Is it anti-Rory. Or is it maybe just 4 guys following Bryson who want their 15 minutes.
I was there yesterday at 17 green/18 tee. The same guys chanting USA were chanting Rory 5 mins earlier. Everyone cheers for a winner.
I think some people read too much into what the gallery is saying. I don’t think most people cared and a lot of them were really liquored up by 5:00.

When Rory was standing on the 15th hole and leading -8 the crowd was screaming and chanting his name. You might need a better TV. He proceeded to shoot 3 bogeys on the next 4 holes coming in. What did you expect his followers to do? Rory was choking away the US Open missing 3, 3 foot putts. That was painful to watch and if I were his family, I'd keep sharp objects away from him.

Cantlay has never been crowd favorite and probably never will be based on his slow play. Even though the majority of golfers are very slow. Bryson has been repairing his image to most golf fans and even people that hate LIV seem to not care with Bryson, especially the younger guys. That being said, 10x as many people were rooting for Rory over Bryson. There are always some annoying in person golf fans in the crowd, and if you're going to cheer for Bryson over Rory, Bryson being from the US and it being the US Open is for some a legit reason to cheer. Not really that surprising that some fans were chanting that.

Were you there when then chanted USA after Rory's brutal 3.5' miss? That was so wrong but so funny.

What specifically made it funny? Typical trash fan activity, if you ask me. Only do that stuff at the Ryder cup.

As much of an unmitigated a-hole as Tiger is, he hung around and congratulated Koepka in 2019 at the PGA.

From where I was we could 16 green in the distance, but couldn’t really make out the putts. I heard the groans. That’s when we knew he missed.
Didn’t hear the USA chants at that point but that’s when the crowd seemed to flip. It was all Rory chants as he was walking down 16 fairway.
We had a sweet spot in the landing zone for 16 fairway to our right. 18 tee was to our left. 17 green was across 18 tee.
Craziest part is that Cantlay and Rory alternated teeing off of 18 while Bryson and Pavon hit into 17. My wife got an awesome video of Rory watching Bryson’s ball land on 17.

Spent a good bit of time in the 17 grandstand yesterday as well. Neal Shipley came as close to a hole in one as I’ve seen.. and then it ran off the back like several others.. brutal

Hope you had an enjoyable weekend and got some good food and things.

yeah, after getting some more info on this I'm convinced it's a case of 3-4 liquored up attention seekers - thinking they are clever and funny and can tell their friends that was them.

Because he and Koepka have been close friends off the course.
The sticking around to shake the winners hand thing is a fairly new thing in golf. I don’t remember it happening until Tigers win at East Lake

Rory seems broken.
There are losses, tough losses, and then there are losses that haunt.
This feels like a haunting loss.
I will not be surprised if his game drops back a bit and he never wins another major.
Hope I'm wrong.

People said the Open loss would haunt him forever. It clearly didn’t. Phil’s winged foot debacle didn’t hurt him either
As bad as it seems shite like this fades away like anything else.
I would personally be very very surprised if Rory wasn’t in contention at Troon next month

I couldn’t believe he was aiming outside the hole, he did the old hit and hope. When it took firm and inside the left.

Harder on that line is about all I’m comfortable giving y’all.
I’m ultimately ok with the speed he used, but recognize he could have helped himself a little bit with a little more aggressive stroke.
But I’m talking juuuust a little harder(on the same line or even a bit left of it which is the issue here). Those of you saying grip it and rip it on that putt are confusing me a bit.

Same
I would also be very surprised if he won

I would not be very surprised if he won.
I wouldn’t be surprised if any of the following won
Rory
Bryson
Brooks
Morikowa
Scottie
Xander
Anyone outside of that would surprise me
Xander was 30 years old with zero majors and multiple collapses. Then he won. It’s about being near the lead with opportunities. The more you do that , the chances of winning happens. Rory will be there in multiple more majors so him winning would never be a surprise to me
He has 3 top 5s in the last 7 majors. Saying it would be a surprise to see him win is going way too far IMHO, and that’s from someone very clearly saying he choked big time yesterday

I had a good one my man
Was stuck on a boat Saturday with Tenn and FSU fans, so that got a little gay. But can’t complain other than that.
How you been???
