Exactly. Technically the definition should be changed to include that usage. Typically when a word is used popularly in a new context than the original that gives it new meaning and that new meaning is added to the definition.

They are probably going to sell it. I read that the kids dad is a breaker. He’s gonna go for the payday.

Get what you can. Safe investments and by the time the kid is 30 he'll have a nice nest egg.

If it exceeds standard deduction (it will) then a tax return must be filed. And a sale of that magnitude will not be able to be swept under the rug or hidden.

He’s 11. Plenty of time. Invest it and use the interest and income to pay for those things.

I’d tell the Pirates organization to kiss my cheeks with that sorry offer. You either give me the true value amount of money or they aren’t getting shite. And the Livvy offer is just laughable

Smart kid.
quote:
The young collector who scored a one-of-a-kind baseball card featuring National League Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes has turned down a trade offer from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Topps announced Friday that the 11-year-old from the Los Angeles area had declined the deal and instead was going to put the card -- which features Skenes' autograph and a patch from a game-worn jersey -- up for auction.
Posted on 1/25/25 at 12:05 pm to hsfolk
Topps showed a video of Skenes sitting down signing it. He legitimately looked like he was sad to give it up. He jokingly got up with it and started walking towards the door. Skenes would probably give that kid a bunch of money for it.

Why would the Pirates think this kid, who I assume is a Dodgers fan, would want Pirates season tix for 30 years? Or was that offer on the table before the card was found?
Posted on 1/25/25 at 12:17 pm to PhillyTiger90
Yes that was the offer before the card was found. It’s been on the table for months.

Why do the Pirates want it? To give it back to Skenes?
I would maybe understand if it were something like the ball from a milestone hit/home run but it's a patch from his jersey (which my guess is he still has the rest of the jersey).
When did players start wearing patches for their MLB debut anyway?
Posted on 1/25/25 at 3:51 pm to PJinAtl
No expert, but don’t think Dodgers actually want anyone to accept offer. It’s a marketing ploy / free advertisement
Posted on 1/25/25 at 4:31 pm to PJinAtl
Like someone above me said, it's nothing but a publicity stunt. The Pirates have been an afterthought for most of their existence. They likely knew no one that pulled it would ever accept their offer. But it keeps them in the headlines getting others to talk about their shitty team. Like we are here.
I believe the rookie debut patches went on players uniforms in 2023.

Card is likely worth 10s of millions and the pirates are offering the kid two tickets for 30 years
Hardly, the most expensive baseball cards ever (Mantles, Ruth’s, etc) have only gone between 8-10m. No way that card sniffs that dollar amount.
